Yes, the speaker jack requirements list a powered stereo PC speaker. If you're hearing audio, then the Clear Speech speaker must have an internal amp. You probably should just use a stereo plug …1 -

Here's a silly question - have you checked to see what, if any, is the voltage dip at the 6K when the 5K is keyed?1
