So what exactly is this zoom to segment supposed to do???

It seems to do the same thing as the "b" button.

It looks like it zooms (out) the the CW or SSB part (segment) of the amateur band one is tuned to. 

On AM BC band it had no effect.

Yes, on 80 thru 10 meters it will zoom out to the segment of the band you are on SSB, CW, or digital, based on ARRL bandplan. SmartSDR uses center of panadapter to determine which segment you are in.

I sure hope it uses the TURF tables and not just the ARRL band plan otherwise it will be wrong for EU and RoW. There's a pretty big place beyond the US border!

Ahhhh, that makes sense.   It seems to work for Phone and CW/Digi segments.

Initial release is only USA bandplan

Suggest you post the idea to use TURF files as an ideapostto gauge how much interest there is
