Several of the microphones I am considering are XLR4.  I know the 6500 is OK with the XLR3 but will it accept the XLR4?
Thanks

No, but XLR4 to XLR3 adapters are available.

The rear connector for balanced audio input will accept either a 3-pin XLR or a 1/4" tip-ring-sleeve plug.  Looks like you'll need an adapter cable.

I'm curious:  What is the fourth pin for?  Is your mic part of an intercom headset?

I am afraid that is the answer.  I have a radiosport head phone mic attached to the front and I wanted to attach a balanced mic to the rear with PTT.  So I guess I will have to give up the PTT in favor of a switch.

that is my setup also.  Heil Pro 7 in front and a Heil 781 in back.  I started with a HM-Pro in the back with an adapter cable from DX engineering. Upgraded to the 781.  I use the HM-Pro on my Maestro.
