Picked up a second hand 6500 this week at a bargain price to upgrade the existing 6300. New shack layout part installed this evening in order to play in WAE SSB this weekend and give the 6500 its first workout. New short call contest callsign also arrived this week - so will be giving GW6J its first airing too.  All I need now is 1.5 ssdr to go live :-)  Will take some more set up work to get my transverter for 4m working on the new radio but in the meantime I look forward to working some of you in WAE SSB this weekend.

Yes maybe I should be giving out QTCs this weekend rather than receiving them!  Not sure why the photo is upside down as its the right way up in my pictures library when I open it here.  Hopefully version 1.5 will sort it all out :-)

I am confused are you "praising" something about the Flex?

Well it's not a problem or an idea so I chose praise. Your experience may vary etc but I am very pleased with how my 6300 has been working on lf Hf and VHF dxing and contesting - a few hours in with four bandscopes and waterfalls in wae ssb contest and I am equally happy with my 6500. I seldom give praise , but having used ft1000d, MP, mk5, and ic7400, pro 3, and a ts590s for Hf contesting and dxing over last 20years the flex radios are more intuitive with better filtering by far, and the upgrades in ssdr have been great fun. That's praise for you. Only reason my ic7400 has remained in my shack is the poor resale price and the fact that it gives me 100w on 2m. All the other legacy radios have gone to new homes before they dropped more in price. Lucky for me the previous owners of the 6500 I picked up last week didn't like sdr so I bought it for less money than a new 6300 with atu. Looking forward to my second winter with flex radios for lf dxing and contesting and the implementation of so2r again in my shack. Back to WAE ssb contest now for some more qtc fun the the 6500 on the low bands:-) 73 Steve gw0gei / gw6j
