Winter pests

Winter has brought out lots of little RF pests in my neighborhood.

Tonight I have a snake on my pan:

Seems some one has a new Christmas toy or perhaps a new heater.   I have others that come and go.

But I will say one thing... While the DSP stuff in SmartSDR/Flex is pretty much useless the filters are simply great.  When something like this starts meandering through my QSO I just drag filters to focus on the signal!

Wow, that snake is a new one for me! I have not seen it before. I wonder if it could be someone’s new massage chair, or washing machine?

LOL... Massage chair... Well I guess that is possible!  It was just meandering back and forth, not super strong but noticeable.

Back before pan adapters I think I tuned across all kinds of crap that I just figured were what my elmers called "Birdies" and I implied they were inside the radio.

Now I can see this stuff and it is pretty interesting to watch.  One of the main reasons I'll never go without a pan again.

I am having issues on 40 and 80 meters with noise every 20khz or so.  I am waiting for all the neighbors to take down their mechanical Santas and other lite up Christmas decorations.  I am hoping the noise then goes away.
