Windows 10 upgrade issues

I upgraded from Win 8.1 to 10 (yeah, I know...but I just couldn't resist the temptation!) and only then removed SmartSDR as suggested.  My error - I didn't read this advice until afterwards.

As far as I could tell no remnants of the SSDR installation remained - even 'show hidden devices' in the Device Manager showed that all the ports had been removed.  I received the following error message when reinstalling 1.4.16:

SmartSDRD Cat:  Fatal Error.
Service Virtual Serial Port Kit service was not found on computer

The odd thing is that the radio (6500) works normally and DAX outputs to WSJT-X, but I have no frequency control of the radio from WSJT-X.  The other odd thing is that it has picked up all my Profile Manager settings from the supposedly uninstalled installation, which suggests the removal of the earlier version was not complete and that bits remain.

Is there any other way of either totally removing all traces and allowing a brand new installation to happen, or leaving it as it is but sorting out the Service VSP problem?  Presumably that is the cause of the problems and if I get that to work everything will fall into place?

Any suggestions (other than reverting back to 8.1???).

Uninstall the entire SmartSDR ecosystem using this procedure.  Follow it completely

Then re-install SmartSDR for Windows.
