I'm doing a poll on HF Amps

I would like to know which HF amp you are using and if it is CAT controlled.

Let me know!

AL-1306 but I gave up trying to get the cable and CAT commands to work. I generally only use it on 20 & 40 so I just switch it manually

Hi david - Yes I did! It didn't work for me though. Maybe there's a problem with my amp but since I don't use it much I just band switch manually.

Hello Don,  I have the ALS-1306 also and it works fine with my 6700.  I do change by hand a lot of time since like you I don't use the amp that much, but when I have it in the REM position it works well.  Sometimes takes a bit of time for the band information to be sent to the amp, but it gets there eventually.  Good luck!  Mark.

Hi Mike.  I'm using an SPE 1.3K  Didn't bother hooking up the CAT but it is available.  What I really like about this amp - 1300+ watts out on ssb with 18 watts drive, very quiet, only weighs 17 lbs.

Hi Bill,
True on the price, had mine for 10 years now.  Built like a tank, the combined weight of the power supply and RF deck is 145 lbs.   Here is a link to my web page with more details if interested.

Definitely not portable....put it in place and leave it there.  My XYL and I set it up.....

Actually the power supply weighs 145 once the transformer and choke is installed.  The RF deck is another 60 lbs and about 30 pounds of that is a copper heat sink.
No one is going to walk off with it, haha.

Running SPE 2K-FA, up to 1,500 watts SSB/CW, 1.2Kw on continuous modes like FT8, RTTY, etc. I'm using the cable sold by Expert Linears that connects the Flex radio directly to the SPE amp. When I power my radio up/down, the amp powers up/down with it automatically, band switching is automatic, and transmitter drive levels are automatically adjusted per band at each of Low/Medium/High power levels to drive the correct power out, without any ALC.

I really like the built-in tuner and 6 antenna ports.

Couldn't be happier.

I have a 1.3k-fa and use the same cable. It is made by KC5PCB for Expert Linears America. I don't think it has a part number.

The RJ-USB6000 cable from MFJ will work with the ARI-500 and the 600/1300.  I use it with the ALS-600 and ARI-500.  The cable from MFJ plugs into the flex and into the ARI-500.  There is a cable that runs from the ARI-500 to the amp which I believe came with the ARI-500.  Make sure you setup the cable in the flex to use BCD.

SPE 2K-FA.  It is CAT controlled and remote controlled via FlexLogger.  I would have done a PGXL but it appears they are still very difficult to get.

Very funny Martin. I haven’t heard the term “Inverse Snob Appeal” used for decades!

By the way, my first SSB rig was an SB101, which I foolishly sold in the ‘70s. Fortunately, I recently obtained a mint condition full SB101 lineup, including power supply, external VFO, speaker and amplifier, from a deceased VK7 estate. I was also very fortunate to be able to locate and re-purchase a sweep tube amplifier I built in the 1960s in a genuine SB101 case using genuine Heathkit front panel hardware.

As my 6700 and 2K-FA are remotely controlled from a solar powered greenfield site, a three and a half hour return trip drive away, the only gear I have in my home shack is also all biologically controlled.

Best 73

Winston.

Continuing the fine tradition of Inverse Snob Appeal I drove a Heathkit HA-14 Kompact Kilowatt (using keying relay) with a FLEX 6300 with good success until the KPA500 arrived.

Michael  My AL-80B has the external QSK-5.   The relay in the amp clicks once when I start sending and then everything else is handled by the QSK-5 letting me hear between characters.  However to avoid hot switching I have to set the TX Delay on my 6400m at 25.

Expert 1K and Acom 1000 with 6700. Blyg amps are great, but in slightly different ways. Only drawback with Expert, old software for PC control. Doesn't work nearly as well as SW for the never models. Negative with Acom? No remote control at all. But a genuin easy to handle workhorse.

I use a THP 450B and an RM ITALY HLA 305V. I run about 300 watts or less. I doubt I'll ever use any more power than that. No need to.

Works great with a simple Hustler 6BTV ground mounted vertical. A lot of fun.
