What is the offical way to connect a receive antenna (small magnitic loop) to the 6500 series? Have searched but not found a good way to do.

Hook it up to the XVTR port and then select the XVTR port as RX antenna.

XVTR or RXA port. Easy and safe with a BNC connector. You can use either of the UHF ANT connectors, but recommend you not, since it is possible to transmit through them. That’s bad for the loop :-)0

I was gonna say.. -perhaps the RXA or RXB bnc ports.

On a 6500, it would be the RXA BNC port.
You could also use the XVTR port , but the TX/RX switching would probably be cleaner with the RXA.
I agree with others, I wouldn’t recommend using the ANT2 port for a receive only antenna, especially if it has active devices in it.... that is a disaster waiting to happen if you forget and transmit into it. BTW... For those with a 6300, which has no RXA port, 6300 users would need to use the XVTR port for receive only antennas.0 -
To the RX-A port for a 65000
