I've been a licensed amateur since 1982 and an IT professional for over 40 years. I retired 4 years ago and now finally have the time I've always wanted to devote to the amateur radio hobby. I purchased an SDRPlay RSP1 sometime ago to get my first experience with the new SDR technology and although it is amazing how much information is available in such a small device, it still not a full-fledged transceiver. So, I purchased a Flex 5000a from a fellow ham for $1,000 which had both the 2nd RX and ATU installed. After receiving the radio and installing PowerSDR software I discovered that there was something not quite right with the way the software was reporting SWR and power output After performing a few tests suggested by a Flex support tech, we determined that the SWR bridge had some major issues and possibly some other problems. So, after contacting the seller and rather than send it to Flex and wait in their queue for 8 weeks or more, the seller agreed to take the radio back for a full refund. So, back to the drawing board. Since many of you have upgraded to the 6000 series SDR radio, I'm hoping that I can find someone interested in selling their 5000a. If that is you and it has the 2nd RX and ATU installed, please reply to this post with your details and price.

I am also a retired IT professional. I had a Flex 5000. It is a good radio. I'd respectfully suggest upgrading to (at least) a 6400. The thin client and Smart SDR is so much easier to maintain. With PSDR, you have to keep your PC in Rio top shape (drivers, especially video) to avoid breakdowns. Spend and enjoy. You've earned it!1

Still another retired IT geek.
I have and enjoy a 6300 which can be had from Flex as a reconditioned used radio with a one year warranty. All the capability and a substantial savings.1 -
I went from an SDRPLAY RSP2 to Flex 6400 and I am over the moon. The Flex pulls in sooo much more than the SDRPLAY, and ..... wait for it .... IT TRANSMITS!!!!0

Why are you stuck on the 5000, As Gene said a reconditioned radio from Flex is a great option. I did.
I got a 6500, it has been a great upgrade from my older 3000 witch I still think was and still is a great radio, But I really like SSDR, simple, clean and has a much better panadapter.0
