Hi Tim,
It looks like when you close the conversation on an IDEA, it prevents users from adding their votes.

Here is an example:

https://community.flexradio.com/flexradio/topics/pfskimer_what_is_the_possibility_for_a_smartsdr_dis...

In this case, you felt the conversation was diverging.   I'm not sure the extra comments are really a problem but in any case, the idea is still a good one and had 17 votes at so far.  A number of new members has joined since it was proposed 7 months ago and others members have recently reviewed the idea and may want to vote for it.

Can you verify if what I'm seeing is correct and open the idea back up if this is the case?

Thanks.

Just so everyone can know I never vote, I have a question? How do you Vote? And, where are you allowed to vote, is there voting on every post or just in certain categories? I'm not agin this voting stuff I'm just against "mob" rule, especially when its a mob of hams. I steer clear of Dayton for the same reasons. I just can't bear people who think that "Eau de toilette" means they get to skip soap and showers cause they stopped by the Water Closet yesterday. Yeah there's water in it, but that's not what it's for.  Mama might not have raised a fool, but she sure did raise a stink. ;-)

Hi Jay,
Here are some snapshots that show how you can view the list of ideas and also add your votes.

- This you will give you a list of ideas and it will be in the order of what folks are most interested in.
- CLICK on the idea you are interested in.
- Then if you like the idea click on the LIKE button at the top to add your vote.

Hope this helps.....

By the way, when you click LIKE to add your vote you should see the vote count increment.    Unless the idea thread has been closed, which is the subject of this question.

And Clicking LIKE on a comment down in the thread does not add to the vote count for the idea.

I hope you take the time to vote for some of the ideas you like, FRS does really pay attention to the counts.

Well, then I've actually voted several times without knowing it.

Thanks Al

Yes, it is an unintended consequence of closing an Idea post.  Sorry. Managing the Community is a balancing act that requires some compromises.  I cannot tell you how many times I get personal feedback from community users that "suggest" (not complain mid you) that when a post become off topic, that it is difficult for them to cull the pertinent information from the chaff and this makes the Community much less useful for them. In this case, then the comments on your idea started discussing how CW Skimmer works and how painful it was for them to learn code, the thread has ended its usefulness based on the posters original topic.

Al - whether or not our product management team decides that this feature will or will not be included in SmartSDR is not determined solely on the number of likes it gets.  There are other business factors that go into the decision as well.  The idea post in question got 17 likes and a lot of good feedback on it before it took a sharp left turn off into weeds of irrelevance.  That is enough feedback to ascertain the value of your recommendation.  I don't think a few more likes would tip the scales one way or another.

Hi Tim,
Okay, too bad it works that way. One other consequence of closing an idea is that it spawns threads that are very similar anyway instead of keeping all of the comments together. It happened on this one.

Maybe you could just add a comment asking for the diverging comments to be posted to a new thread.  I've seen you do that before.  At least for IDEAs that strategy would solve both problems.  And it would still enable folks to vote.

Who knows, the spot idea might get 22 more votes and move to the top of the list.
