I do really like the CWX form, it is very handy for microwave work too. It would really be nice to have something similar for voice messages. The instant rec and play is a must, but I'm thinking something that can be used for casual DXing to save your voice when you don't break the pileup right away. Note: This topic was created from a reply on the will the W5SXD memory keyer be back soon? sure was nice to set up a 'cq dx robot'... topic.

And a huge plus will be to have a CAT command for each stored voice or CW memory. This can then be programmed into contest loggers. -Greg

Incorporate the ability to record and store base, unprocessed audio and play them back to be processed exactly like the live mike would be processed, with the same filter, EQ, compression, etc. Then "is it live, or is it Memorex?" would become "is it live, or is it SmartSDR?"

In SmartSDR for Mac, the "Voice Keyer" is implemented and called Voice Macros. Go to Radio→Macros→Voice Macros. You will be presented with a list of names voice recordings that you made in the past. Using the "Record" button, you can add a new named recording (CQ or whatever, …) Recording level can be adjusted by a slider. When done recording, you can set the "TX Gain" slider while looking at the Mic Level meter. Then hit the "Test" button and listen. Finally whenever you want to transmit the audio "macro", simply select the voice macro in the list and hit "Send". Now the recording is transmitting at the right level. Works exceptionally well. Only available in SmartSDR for Mac and as a built-in function, ready to go out of the box. 73 Dan de WA1QZX
