Voice Recorder does not appear to playback voice accurately

The other day several of us were on 2m FM.  One of the fellow ham was wishing he could hear what his voice and rig sounded like over the air.  I thought I'd take the opportunity to record his transmission and then play it back for him.  After the playback, one of the other folks in the group said that the recorded playback did NOT sound like the original transmission.  I then attempted to make several other recordings with and without EQ, Compression, etc.  All to no avail.  Everyone agreed that the played back audio was not very accurate.

Has anyone else noticed this?  Is this a problem with my rig?  Am I doing something wrong?

If your TX bandwidth is more narrow than the original station, or if your receiver Filter is more narrow than the original station is sending, what you send out as a recording will not be accurate. It will be altered by your RX or TX filters.

I had the same issue, with a couple of other stations saying the retransmitted audio wasn't close to the same but a couple of others on frequency said it was exactly the same... B(   It never dawned on me it could be the filters as Ken suggested. Will experiment with it and see.
