USB D-STAR BOARD

I am curious about the USB DSTAR BOARD in testing now.  Does anyone have any comments about it?  Does or will the software allow the "my call, ur call, repeater 1, and repeater 2" fields or will this be a simplex only product?  One way or the other Flex will be getting more of my money :-)  73 and tnx  Lawrence KB5ZZB

I met with Bryan and John of NW Digital Radio at the TAPR DCC last year and we got to talking about their board that provides the DVSI codecs to a Raspberry Pi board.  I was intrigued and said we'd be interested in doing this with the FLEX-6000, but that we would really need another way to access the data.  I suggested a USB appliance and Bryan said he would go make one!  The result is the ThumbDV.  We have also created an open source module for D-STAR which we will be distributing soon that, when used with the ThumbDV, provides D-STAR as a new modulation mode in the FLEX-6000.  The ThumbDV is required because the AMBE codec is proprietary and using the DVSI chip in the ThumbDV is the best way to access the proprietary codec from the radio.

This adds a new mode to the already existing CODEC2/FreeDV mode which can be downloaded from our website and which is also open source.  We'll put the D-STAR code up as soon as we have a chance.  

Using the D-STAR mode will require SmartSDR v1.5 which we hope to have out soon as well.
