Upgrading Advantages

What would be the advantages of upgrading to a 6400 from a 6300. Differences??

I think it is the hardware. As Flex continues with software updates I believe there will be features that only the 6400 and 6600 will be able to use. These Radios are the next generation and software coming will be mostly for them, I think.

There has been no indicators of features that would run exclusively on the 6400/6600 - it doesn't appear that the product hierarchy differs between the 6700/6500/6300 and 6600/6400 family along the lines you're speculating. 

There are non-functional differences between the two families, as the 6600/6400 have cool lighting of course. 

Presently I think the ONLY major feature segmentation appears to be on the number of Spectral Capture Units - SCUs - as some features physically require two SCUs (6600/6700), and on the onboard 2m compatibilities the hardware of the 6700 allows.

The 6600(M) have 7th order front end filters on contest bands.

@KK9W - I'd take the 6300 to 6400 move as a lateral move, rather than an upgrade.  There are differences though the delta (change) is not likely to offer you a different experience. 

BTW the 6300 is an awesome radio - the one I had is now in the W9EVT shack were it runs 6-8 hours most days.  Doing awesome at it too!

7th Order Contest Filtering in the 6400?  Or is that just in the 6600?

According to the specs and comparison on the web site that is just in the 6600. 6400 has 3rd order filtering

I've never used a 6300, but I currently own both a 6400 & a 6500, and I can say except for the lack of the 3rd & 4th slices and panadaptors, the 6400 is easily the 6500's equal and offers greater control over the RF gain of the preamps.  I bought a very early 6400 for software testing and it's currently my primary radio.

Had a 6300 for a few years, and loved it but the reason I went to a 6600 is because it has 2 actual recievers, I can use 2 antennas to receive, with a 6300 and 6400 you cant do that.

The FLEX-6400 has Band Pass Filters (BPFs, also called preselectors) for better out-of-band rejection where the FLEX-6300 does not.  That is probably the largest architectural difference.  On the FLEX-6400, you can also add a GPS and use 10MHz inputs and more TX outputs (3 vs 1).  Those are the largest differences.
