I just ordered one as well not realizing this, is there an estimate as to when this might be resolved? Much appreciated!

It has been like this for like 4 years. Was gonna purchase one myself. I don't know why they keep selling this if it does not work properly.

I've noticed Flex does not sell them on their website anymore.  Since the DSTAR bug reports have remained unresolved  I doubt they will ever get fixed.

I am really sad to hear this. Really too bad as the product has great potential. I am not a heavy Dstar user but I do have a transverters so this would have been a very nice thing to have.  I guess I have a new doorstop now. Thank you for the responses.

The ThumbDV is a third party product based on using the Flex-API

FlexRadio Systems itself cannot “fix” this other company’s product and NW Digital Radio simply hasn’t come through with a usable product.

Those of us who bought the ThumbDV have been quiet as the grapevine had been the fix was in the works and would be out any day.

I think I bought my ThumbDVs in 2014 and here we are June of 2018 with NO sign that NW Digital Radio is ready to make these things work.

SmartSDR needed to evolve so even the “demonstration grade” part of the Waveforms that did sort of work is now incompatible with current releases of SmartSDR.

Glad to see FRS dropped this dud, at least until NW Digital Radio delivers a robust working product.

The ball is 110% in NW Digital Radio’s court.

I guess NW Digital doesn't like making Money ;)
I believe Flexradio users would be their best customers?

My ThumbDV has been working fine, since I bought it from Flexradio, I don't use it for HF Dstar, I use it to talk with hams connected to repeaters all over the planet.

Repeaters that are linked to Dstar reflectors,

Instead of plugging it into the Flex, I plug it into a USB jack on my PC and run BlueDV. Works very well doing it that way. it can also work DMR using BlueDV.

The ThumbDV works!!!

NWDigital's not the problem.

The problem has always been the software your use it with. and what you expect to be able to do with it.

NW Digital just makes the hardware, The software used with that hardware, has always been provided by 3rd party projects, who mostly don't get the participation they need to find and fix the bugs in the software. So they release their software, it makes a thudding noise, and then it get's ignored, after a few buggy behaviors turn up.  Hams have very little patience with buggy software.

Presently, in this part of the solar cycle, I don't have any expectations of working HF Dstar. Dstar being digital, doesn't work well, or much at all, with poor propagation, and noisy band conditions. I don't think that problem has anything to do with Flexradio's Dstar waveform plugin.

I only know a very few, hams with both Flexradio's and ThumbDV's, all of whom use the ThumbDV with BlueDV, on their PCs.

The biggest issue seems to be lack of interest, and better mode choices for HF band communications.

Quick, now that you have BlueDV setup and working, Take a screenshot of the setup form, and save it as a setup backup reference.
