SSDR 1.4.11 Lock-Ups

New thread here but I don't know if others have seen this set of circumstances surrounding the lock-ups.

Played with monitoring the system in receive only on 20M and had approx. 3 lock-ups an hour. Seemingly random timing but in each case the following occurred on Win 7 Performance monitor:

The network drops out completely in PerfMon and on the SSDR network Icon scale then slowly comes back. The Network Display in SSDR shows only 3-4 packets dropped overall each time

FYI: I am using wired Ethernet 1GB NIC and Gig switch. Single router for house handles DHCP

I then tried the same setup using 10.0000 WWV and NEVER had a drop out.

I was able to create the dropout situation only 1X manually - when I went from 10.0000 to 20M. As I switched bands the network throughput dropped to zero on PerfMon and then returned slowly.

I had PerfMon running on another desktop in my office on the same switch. There was no detectible impact on it's connection so it would appear to be a an isolated network issue between the radio and PC. (Now before anyone says anything) Yes, it started with the 1.4.11 update (at least for me) so it would make sense for it to be isolated between the software and firmware in the radio.

The network issue seems similar to what I have seen when there is packet flooding due to a bad switch or NIC.

None of this may be new news and the results are less than scientific. I bow in the direction of those more heavily steeped in these areas.

Many of us have had this problem and found it is solved by opening the DAX Control Panel and click on any link that is active to turn them off. This is true even if you are not using DAX. Once this is done the problem stops happening and if you restart the radio you can now use DAX normally and the problem does not come back. I had this situation and after turning of DAX it has never recurred. My Flex 6500 is running perfectly on 1.4.11. You can also check the "Flex 6300 locks out for a few seconds" problem for a large discussion on this problem. Don

    Don,

    I appreciate the response.

So even after you turn off the radio and restart the computer the problem never returned?

I, in fact did read all of the various threads on the issue. I'm trying to find the root cause as there must be one and if any of the info I published helps Flex narrow down the bug, great.

I tried your suggestion quite early in the process, when I first started having issues after the upgrade. I found that the problem did come back and it is significant as my primary operating mode is PSK31.

It may very well be DAX related but the fix, in my case has not worked.

    Hello Don,
I also had the dropout problem on my 6300. Running Win 7 with 4GB memory.
While chasing problems with Ham Radio Deluxe, I added another 4GB memory to my computer and low and behold my problems with HRD and the dropout disappeared. I still get one dropout shortly after starting SSDR, but that is the only one.

Don, I have 6 GB in the machine - all it will take. Nothing in PerfMon indicated any specific spikes in memory. But I will check that again.

    Thanks!

I have eight gigs and experience the pickups and I'm only working digital modes so a single DAX channel is open. Sometimes restarting SSDR leaves me with a radio that thinks I'm still connected - radio reboot.

I have also had the unpredictable drop out of the Network Performance Monitor. The latency and dropped packets is about as good as can be. I replaced all related Ethernet cables and seemed to notice a drastic reduction but not elimination of the dropouts. I'm running a new Windows 8.1, I7 system with 12 GB of RAM. Hard to figure.

Are any of you also running DDUtil 3.0 (latest) and the HRD server? When I went back to DDUtil 2.0 (last release before 3.0) the problem has not occurred again - albeit in a much shorter test window of time today.
