So as stress reliever on one of my Edtech lists we do a Friday Funnies, So what funnies do we have here that involves the hobby and maybe using your Flex?

I'll start with when I first got my Flex I thought I broke the radio because it would no longer transmit, well it turned out I had bumped the mouse and was out of band.

Not sure if this qualifies, but this certainly describes the last week for the Flex folks.

I had owned my 6500 for several days.  I was learning how to use the radio on RTTY.  I had worked several DX stations using simplex RTTY.

I came across a DXepidition working split, I set up Slice A to receive and slice B to transmit UP the band (just like I do on phone and CW), punched the button to call (MMTTY), the radio switched from slice B TX to Slice A TX thereby transmitting on top of the DX station.  Of course the DX/pileup police spent several minutes sending “UP”, I didn’t understand what was happening so I called again, same thing happened, now the DX police are furious sending “UP”, “My call 599”, as well as various insults and profane comments aimed at me.    Ok,  I set up Slice A to TX up and B to receive on the DX stations frequency and make the contact while several of the police stations are still giving me a 599 TU.  It was quite obvious that I had made the “Top of the Lid List” for that day and given a “Techno Dummy IQ of -1” .  I phoned K0VM, extraordinaire ALPHA tester, after several minutes of conversation,  I now understand SmartSDR CAT “Auto Switch” function,  It’s now disabled on the com ports I use for data.

As Tim said at the Dayton dinner, “RTFM” Read The Flex Manual.

I live in these radios, bouncing back and forth from SmartSDR and PowerSDR depending on the daily support workload.  I still catch myself trying to move the "slice" in PowerSDR and can't figure out for a second or two why it is fixed in the middle of the panadapter DOH!
