I know FRS does not announce in advance when software updates are coming but will SmartSDR be getting updates at a much faster rate going forward in 2017? With the Maestro, new IOS app, new HF amp & it’s commercial products division it seems FRS has it’s plate full and that’s a good thing it shows that the company is strong but does this mean that updates for SmartSDR will go even slower?

I hope we will see Updates roll out much faster in 2017 because although SSDR is great and the future WAN capability forthcoming will be a game changer in the industry it is lacking in so many simple features compared to PowerSDR and even many conventional transceivers. I won't go into the features since the users have posted feature request on this board hundreds of times before.

I’m not complaining I just wanted to get a sense what to expect from FRS in 2017 as far as SSDR and the 6000 series.

The question at hand is..

"...will SmartSDR be getting updates at a much faster rate going forward in 2017?"

Steve Hicks, the VP of Engineering answered this question several times recently.  We are transitioning to more frequent release cycles and this has been evident in 2016.

To date in 2016, there have been four minor releases (1.6, 1.7, 1.8. 1.9) and another one scheduled for later this month (1.10)  In that same time period, there have been an additional four (4) maintenance releases making for a total of at least 9 software releases for 2016.  That is an admirable number of software releases for one year.

Will 2017 have 9-10 software releases? Maybe yes.  Maybe more or maybe less. This isn't a numbers game where in January we say we are going to do X number of releases for the year.  We have in mind release "themes" comprised of different feature sets.  Once defined, we start working towards that goal.  When we get to a point where there are enough of the right features that are complete and we are satisfied with the release quality, we cut a release.

We are very excited about the new SmartSDR v2.0 software that will be delivered in 2017.  We anticipate you will be too.  Stay tuned.
