SmartSDR - There are currently no radios available

Recently, I had to replace a hard drive in my computer because it ran out of space and Windows wouldn't update.  I installed a brand new drive and a brand new copy of Windows 10 from a disk.  While I was waiting for a new drive to arrive, I had the Flex turned off.
.
I have the computer up and running now and installed a copy of SmartSDR 2.1.32.  When I start SmartSDR, it returns a message "There are currently no radios available".

The radio is on.  It's been connected to my router all along.  Network lights at the RJ45 connection are on and blinking.  I must have missed something here, just don't know what it is.

I am running Windows 10.

What Radio?

you will probably need to be on the LAN that the radio is on and then log out the Radio from SmartLink
(you will need to hit the PTT on the Radio) then login and connect to Smartlink, (you will have to hit the PTT again then Smartlink should work over the WAN.

Hope this helps

Steve - My guess is you need to load the Ethernet Driver onto your new hard drive. Check the Utilities on your motherboard CD, or if you don't have a Disk, check online for the Ethernet Driver for your motherboard.

If you are connecting to the internet ok then the network should be ok. Try and do a cold restart to make the radio find the IP address. Shut off radio and unplug the power cord for 15 seconds, re connect and re start radio.

The Internet is working fine.  I am seeing other devices on my network.  I have tried to power cycle the radio a couple of times but SmartSDR and CAR both don't see the radio.

I completely removed SmartSDR and reinstalled it... I even removed the directories in Program Files and %Appdata and reinstalled it.  No luck.

I noticed that SmartSDR didn't ask me if i wanted to install any drivers.

You did disconnect the power cable as well?
Can it connect to the computer directly?

When all else fails,  try connecting directly from the rig to the computer with a NEW network  cable.

I power-cycled everything including the router.  I connected directly from the rig to the computer with lights at the network port on both sided.  I turned Avast anti-virus off (All four core shields).

Still no radios available.  This in the first time in years that has ever happened here.

You may have tried this but, Do you have another computer that you can try to connect to the radio with just to narrow it down between the Radio and computer.

Hard to say what exactly is going on here.  It could be hardware problem in the radio itself.  But I would be more suspicious of software on the computer causing problems.   Could be drivers, anti-virus software, Windows permissions/settings that need to be modified, or a host of other software programs, etc.

The ultimate (or close to ultimate) test might be to have a computer with a CLEAN Windows install with NO 3rd party software of any kind installed - and then install SmartSDR and see what happens.

The fact that it was working OK until the hard drive was replaced makes me think the problem is less likely to be the radio hardware - but that is just a guess.

Seems like whatever it is must be the cause of the local computer.  I put SmartSDR on my laptop and it finds the radio just fine.

I have Avast turned off, but I think my next step will be to remove it altogether.

It was the anti-virus.  I turned Avast off and that didn't help but when I completely removed it, everything came back up and the radio is visible to the software.

I had to re-install SmartSDR after removing the anti-virus software.  Also, when I removed Avast, WIndows Defender came online so it was necessary to turn that off as well.

Thanks for the help.  I hope this thread will help the next guy that finds himself in this situation.

I run today to exactly the same problem.
Thanks to this thread I was able to solve the problem.
Next will be to contact Avast and find a permanent solution.

Hi,  I had very much the same problem with Avast security SW.  Started when they added new security modules and of course they were initiated on install of the update.  I then started having problems connecting and with come port operation with several of my third party apps.  I finally turned off Avast modules (only way to turn them off is from the menu under "Component")  one by one until the problem was fixed.  What I did find is that one recent update added in Avast's own Fire Wall.  That in fact was the cause of my problems.  I turned on all the other modules and had no more problems.  I now use the Windows fire wall with no problems and still have the use of most, but not all the Avast.  Here are the modules that work OK.
File Shield
Mail Shield
Web Shield
Ransomware Shield
Real site
Anti Spam
Any module that you don't need or use can be uninstalled from within Avast, under the "Customize"  "down arrow".  Select "Uninstall Component"

Hope this additional info helps....
