SmartSDR 1.6.21 installed and tested with satellite AO-73

Installation went well and the radio still seems to work, though HF bands
seem dead. WWV heard. FlexSatPC and SatPC32 connects.

Had a nice long QSO on AO-73. So everything seems to work, especially FlexSATPC, an absolute necessity to work AO-73. Flex-6500 running connected to computer via LAN/Ethernet.

And what is it?

Ron, when you said 'nice long conversation' would you elaborate on long? Isn't AO-73 fox-1?

I had a conversation with Butch, on the satellite collection we currently have in orbit and I waxed on with what a smartSDR-like satellite specific GUI would look like. This transitioned into a general lament over the lack of phase III birds when I happened across a couple of articles referring to amsat dl is shipping their phase III-D bird to VA Tech. We both kind of characterized the current crop as flying repeaters.

I am, therefore, curious about the length, quality, and duration of your satellite qso.

Clarification, Butch was suggesting a desire for FRS to have a new 6000 member be a satellite specific rig. I offered it would be quicker to use the same 6000 radio but have a satellite specific GUI.

Ron... looking at your page.. can you elaborate on how you have your transverters connected to your FLEX?  Specifically how are you selecting which transmits...

thanks

I'll try to answer all the comments.

I am using a Flex-6500 and two DEMI transverters and software to create a Full-Duplex satellite system. An article on this system will be published in the January-February issue of the AMSAT Journal. It is currently at the printers and should be in the hands of subscribers around the end of the month. At that time, a copy of the article will be available on the Flex website. There is a companion article in the same issue by Dave Beumer, W0DHB, on his software, FlexSATPC, which ties all the components together.

The satellite tracking and control program, SatPC32, does not directly control the Flex-6000 series radios. FlexSATPC ties together SmartSDR, SatPC32 and Log4OM to provide seamless control of the satellite system.

My previous satellite system used a Flex-1500, Flex-3000 and transverters was described in 2013. A link to that article is

As far as my QSO on AO-73, which is also called FUNcube-1, was about 10 minutes in duration. Its transponder drifts during a pass ans manual control in addition to Doppler correction is needed. FlexSATPC provides an easy method to do this.

Thanks Ron! What I was describing to Butch was a variant of XPSSDR that would control the 6000, adjust for Doppler track positions and aos/los etc.

Hi Ron.
I too have a 6500 and want to retire my Ic-910H and do it from the flex.
I've seen your trasverter is two demi.
please tell me the exact reference.

As you have connected the trasverter to flex.
that only has an exit flex.
Some accessory ??

Please if you need very detailed information can and I want to implement the 144 and 432 in my flex to satellites.

I understand that you're using only one 6500 and these two trasverter.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks Ron.

Actually it's ALL your fault! It was reading yours and Dave's articles that started me off on the whole AmSat thing! I've emailed Dave to get a copy of FlexSatPC.

Great articles by the way and got me joining both AmSat & AmSat UK and attending a whole bunch of lectures from AmSat Germany in Friedrichshafen!

It's opened a whole new world of amateur radio to me!

I thank you but my bank balance doesn't!!!

I am putting together a new release and updating documentation. I will post a download link here tomorrow.

If you have any specific questions you can email me at email published in QRZ.com.
FlexSATPC also will work with the Flex 5000 with a V/U unit or transverters.

I am currently using both the Flex 5000 and 6700 for satellite operations.
