Jim, Could you connect to the ARI-500 using an RJ-45 cable for the Kenwood RX, TX & GND connections to a DB9 breakout (pic below) that connects to an FTDI USB Serial cable?

OK BOB here you go. MY setup the FLEX radio FDTI USB to serial plugged in this is a Null Modem and the to the Ameritron RJ-DB97DK all this plugged to the ARI-500 and them the ALS-600S main OP/STBY switch and the Band Switch set to  is set to STBY and the Band Switch set to Remote  so the ARI-500 can control the AMP.  The SmartSDR >setting USB cable found the USB real fast. questions?

Now that SmartSDR is able to  control external devices directly are there any plans to add Operate / Standby buttons for amp control to the SmartSDR interface ?

I would prefer a few macro-buttons so that no matter what amp you have, you can send the commands you want to out over the serial link.  And, of course, be able to label the macro buttons with, say 5 or 6 characters.

    Cheers !

The USB cable was bought from FLEX. the SmartSDR 1.10.3.8 when I plugged the cable into the USB port on back of radio, under settings you will see USB cables,.

None in the near future.  The USB Cable feature is primarily designed for providing band data to the connected devices, not complete device control.  There are some internal discussions about possibly providing a way for third-party hardware manufacturers a way to use the USB CAT interface for more advanced features.

Seems like everyone is only talking about USB cables.

My question is; How is the rest of the release working?  There were tons of changes other than the USB cable.  Anybody found any problems with anything else?

I haven't upgraded yet because I was waiting on a status of the other changes.

    Anybody?
