I'm having trouble connecting outside of my home QTH through Smartlink. Works at the home QTH but getting a search error message, I set to a static IPO address, still getting same search error message. Going on vacation tonight and need to get this working. Equipment, Flex-6300, 9.7 inch iPad.

Thanks

Most likely your router is blocking the incoming connection from outside of your home network.   Have you forwarded the ports (for smartlink) in your router to your radio?  What happens when you start Smart SDR, hilite your  flex radio, and click on the smartlink setup button?  Is your radio registered for smartlink? (Version 2 license required)  What happens when you click on the test button under network settings?

Thanks Carl,
I thought I had it fixed, tried it a few blocks from home Qth with my cell as a mobile hot spot and all was working. Took the family on vacation and back to square one, keep getting, Search Error message. I did get a green lite when I hit test and thought I saved those settings, but cant connect from the hotel. Very frustrating, would have loved to make a few contacts during the vacation. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Warren

Two things I would try...first check to see that Smart SDR program is allowed through your firewall on the pc you are using for remote operation. Second... I would uninstall and reinstall Smart SDR.  When it asks about keeping the drivers...keep them.  As some remote users have experienced, wifi in hotels and other public areas can be problematic. Some are slow and some block certain ports and protocols.  Most are segmented... in that another area might yield better results, as each area ( a hall for example) is served by a single device.  Worth a try.  I hope at least the wifi is free. :-)
Good luck/73

Carl,

Tried your suggestions, even called Verizon Fios to check my connection, to no avail. I also tried to connect with my cell phone as a mobile hot spot. Don’t know what to do next. Thanks for all your help.

Well... I am puzzled. You did say you had it working with your cell as a hotspot. Right?  So my guess is something is not working at home.  Did the power drop at your house and the radio get turned off?

Carl,

Thought I would update you as I returned home from my vacation. As soon as I rebooted my radio I logged back in via Smartlink and was able to see both options , the Smartlink and the LAN, and was able to connect to either. The last test is to attempt to connect away from the home QTH. I'm thinking that maybe rebooting solved the problem. I now need to look into controlling the powering up and down of the radio remotely. Thanks for your help.

Glad you got it going...seems like you are on the right track. You might try to search for a solution to that here in the community.

Perhaps since the radio was on, your IP address changed with your router, maybe due to it restarting or rebooting from power failure and that caused the no connection, If yo can look at the router settings and make your radio either static or in the router if your using DHCP, see if option available to make static DHCP address for the router. If you make it a static route or assign a static DHCP to your flex then if the router reboots it will always assign the same IP address to your radio.

I think a lot of your problem is the Ipad software. I have the similar problems yet the same router etc works perfect with my Window 10 Laptop. Very hit/miss from outside my LAN but have never had a nice long lasting connection using the Ipad. Sometimes it won't connect, sometimes it does but won't hold it yet without fail the Win 10 LT works perfect for hours on end and connects 1st hit.
