Since the inception of SmartLink I have always noticed "pops" or "clicks" in both receive and transmit audio when running remote. Both on cellular and remote WiFi connections. I attributed it to just poor coverage.
I started investigating an issue affecting cable modems using the Intel Puma 6 chipset https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31079834-Modem-SB6190-is-a-terrible-modem-Intel-Puma-6-MaxLinear-mistake
There are class action lawsuits regarding the flawed Puma 6 chipset. I had the Arris TM1602A modem which uses the Puma 6 chipset.
I went to my cable company and swapped it for the Arris TM822G which still works up to 200 MB down service. No more pops or clicks! Streaming is MUCH smoother now.
So, if you are having pops and clicks when running SmartLink and are using a cable modem with the Puma 6 chipset, you should check with your cable provider for an alternative modem.
