New rig: flex 6600, new laptop with fresh install of SSDR and thats all working.  Fresh install of CW skimmer.

However when I run slicemaster I get a blank window.  Tried .22a as well.  Same thing.

What am I missing?

Hi Mark,

That's a very sad looking screen.  Slice Master has connected to your radio but has failed to finish building its user interface.  I'll bet there is something interesting in the logs.

When Slice Master was starting up did any error or warning messages appear in the status line?  If you click on the radio model in the lower left corner then let your mouse just hover there for a second, you should get a pop-up with the last few status messages.

If it's not too much of a bother, send me an email with your configuration folder attached.  Just navigate your way to

C:\Users\<your name here>\AppData\Local\K1DBO

Then right-click on slice-master and select Send to/Compressed (zipped) folder.  That will create a zip containing your logs and configs.  If the splash screen worked, it shows an email address you can use.  If not, there's a popular web site where you can enter my call sign and find my email ;)

Thanks.

Hi Don,

I'll give it another try on the laptop.  It is a 4K screen on the laptop so perhaps something about that.

I just tried .22a on my desktop, more standard sized screen and it seems to work fine here.

Get back to you with log on the laptop.

Hi Dan,

Which version of Slice Master are you running?  The latest is v0.10.2a.  If you are not running it, please give it a try.

I can't get Slice Master to work either. Running v0.10.2a on Win10, Flex-6600m, latest SmartSDR. When I run the program, it starts up ok, then I go to settings, all the way to the bottom where it says Radio, I click '--select--' and there are no radios to select. And the "Launch" tab is completely blank as well.

How can I make this work?

Since your radio is not showing up in the settings tab it sounds like a networking problem.  Usually it's a firewall issue.. did you approve access for Slice Master when prompted?

Just checked the firewall and found 4 separate entries for slice-master.exe, and half of them were set to block. I set them all to allow and it works now, but one wonders how they got set to be blocked in the first place? Thanks for the help!

Suggestion: Make it painfully obvious what Slice Master is doing behind the scenes. If there was some status window or activity window or something that told me "Trying to connect to SmartSDR on localhost port xxxx...... " with it showing how many seconds it's waiting, I would have immediately thought of checking the firewall. But as the program is now, as a first time user running it, all I saw was a big pile of nothingness. Even after I tracked down where the log files are stored, they didn't contain any indication of this error.

Great!

Anytime you run a program that wasnt installed with an installer the firewall will block it.  Usually you'll get a pop-up dialog from the firewall asking you to approve network access.  Sometimes that dialog gets buried behind other windows.  If you ignore it or dont approve network access, block rules are added.  This will happen any time you move the executable to.  If you unzip your new version of Slice Master on top of the old, you wont get prompted again.

Have fun!

This was a first time install. If an installer is the best way to prevent firewall issues from happening, why don't you ship an installer with slice master?

Update: It now connects to my flex ok, but when it launches wsjt-x, wsjt-x is unable to control my radio. I can see the waterfall coming in, and decodes are working, but when I try to change bands or tx, it says "Rig Control Error: Do you want to reconfigure the radio interface?" and then under details it says "Ham Radio Deluxe: rig doesn't support mode".

Note that I already got wsjt-x working correctly before installing Slice Master, in case that matters. What should I do?

The status line, where you now see that you have a radio connected should have said <no connection>.  But you are right, I should make that look more like an error or warning.

This is really bizarre, wsjt-x is able to see which frequency my radio is on, but any kind of band change or tx makes the green connection light in wsjt-x turn orange, and then it gives me the error I gave above. So, it seems it can read data via slice master ok, but not send data?

Engineering trade-offs... do you want a nice installer or do you want your spots to show up in the panafall?  We are pretty short staffed here at Slice Master Heavy Industries.  The boss doesnt even like to write documentation and has no intention of setting up an accounts receivable department.  But, I do expect that by the time the version numbers get closer to v1.0.0, there will be an installer.

Dan,

Send me an email... we'll get to the bottom of your trouble.

For starters, zip up the folder where you found the config file, logs and all, and send it along.

Thanks.
