What I am wanting to know is what the fles 6500 will do without and external device. I felt to do the pact or you would need the modem. I have several. People in ARES which have the flex so wanted to know what it would do by its pelf.

am.ssb.essb,cw and some kind of digi ssb I think. (Out of the box thats it)
you need a sound card , software ,and or a modem , Software packages going to do "OTHER"

I run Pactor P3 Sail mail Air mail ,RMS express , Winmor No P4 yet .using the SCS modem
And you need a turn over time 20MS or less to make it work correctly

For the rest I run HRD ,DM780 , Fidgi , MixW ,(Used that from its inception)

Dale, you need a SCS modem for PACTOR 2-4 and robust packet (RPR).
You can also do APRS, PSK31, RTTY, CW, SSTV, PACKET RADIO and AMTOR
with these modems.

I have a SCS PTCIIPRO and PTCIIex for EMCOMM here.
Winmor is a soundcard mode and runs therefore without a modem. It works,
but not half as well as the PACTOR modes. This results from the TR delay
and the special compression and error correction by the PACTOR modes.
You can read all about PACTOR on the SCS website
http://www.scs-ptc.com

Connecting a SCS modem to the Flex series is possible with a cable
you have to make yourself. I have made a cable for my Flex-3000 and
that works quite well, although I must confess that I still use a FT-897D
for PACTOR EMCOMM, because a SDR is a bit overkill for this kind
of work, IMHO...

farallon.us/ has been known to manufacture any cable you need for the flex or other radios.(Call and be pleased )
I have just gotten a set for the KX-3 . complete with frequency control via propagation indexes.

Of course they work perfectly along with any of the SCS modems out there .
Lots out there if you only want P-3 if P-4 Dragon there is 2 new ones available.DR7400 and the DR 7403 However few stations out there right now using this P-4 compression .

And for the rest of the modes the tiger tronics unit is just fine.
It too has a myriad of radio cable combinations. And it can run VOX keying .
