Problem with DAX not related to an update

Back a few months ago I enjoyed coming into my office early in the morning and making a few FT8 contacts or an occasional RTTY by using my home station remotely. SSDR 2.4.9 and W7 computer.

Then one morning I had badly distorted transmit audio. I tried both WSJT and MMTTY. Both programs could receive normally. TX audio level is set well below 0 db.

I tried deleting everything and re-installing. Nothing I tried helped. I shelved the problem and gave up trying to get it going again.

This last weekend I set up a remote operating position at a friend's shack for the Arkansas QSO party. I used a new W10 computer with 2.4.9. My intent was to operate some RTTY and show off my Flex to some other operators that would be present. The setup was tested on Friday night and all seemed well. But on Saturday I found that I had distorted audio on transmit. Receive audio (using MMTTY) was OK.

So, now I've seen this problem on two different computers - both remote. My home computer still works fine.

Anyone have a procedure to get DAX working again? I've tried the delete everything that was suggested elsewhere but still no joy.

I've had distorted audio a couple of times while using DAX.  I restarted DAX and the problem went away.  In your case you might want to reboot everything including the radio and computers and try again.

When the DAX app is run for more than 24 hours the transmit channel is at risk for corruption. This is a known problem and was on the survey recently to be prioritized for repair. For now, simply restarting DAX every 24 hours will most likely eliminate the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions! I have tried restarting DAX as well as rebooting everything. The 24 hour issue doesn't apply here as I never had things turned on for that long. I thought maybe I had not done a complete uninstall of the DAX software. Seems like I have seen a detailed procedure for doing that. I know that many are praising remote operation with their radios but my two attempts were failures - and I can't seem to get it working again.

Mark.  Where did you test the Win 10 remote setup from that Friday night ?  Was it local in your shack or was it at your friends place ?

Hi Joe,

Short answer: at the friend's place.

Long description:
I had set up a new W10 i7 desktop that I borrowed from work. Brand new with nothing on it except the OS and SSDR + MMTTY + N1MM. During the week before the QSO party I tested it from my office several times on different days. I always shut everything down after testing. I took the whole setup (computer + monitor) to KK5II's shack on Friday afternoon. Once set up, I tested it using RTTY and everything looked good. Shut everything down and unplugged everything. Came back Saturday morning and the TX audio was bad. Very wide and distorted. Rebooting didn't help. I drove home and reset the radio and also tested with the home computer and all was well. Went back to KK5II's place and tried one more time but no luck. One thing I did not do was check the audio with another sound source - like WSJT. So there is a possibility it might have been something in MMTTY that went bad. I suspect that isn't the case.

Since the QSO party I have not tried that computer again and it will be a while before I can. My 6600 is on its way back to the mothership for an unrelated problem.
