I assume there's going to be an update to SmartSDR 2.0.19 so the amp can be controlled/monitored?

Does Montenegro use UPS or are these pictures from somewhere in the US? From the serial numbers it looks like 20 or so amplifiers.

These are production units.  Some are going to customers who have purchased the amplifier and are also members of our alpha team to verify the hardware and software before volume shipments begin.  Others are being used in-house for support and continued software development.

The ATU will come separately. Right now we are focused on getting the amplifiers out the door and then will shift the attention to the ATU.

I would imagine they are busy in the lab checking them out. I had a chance to see the Bouvet units being tested. Not sure if they would do that with all of the production units but these first ones are given a thorough run through.
Either that or they're stuck in customs. :)
(I know about as much as you do)

Thanks Ria. I should not be too anxious. I reserved a 6600M and Power Genius in August. Probably in the second run. Hopefully both will pop out at the same time. I have a hole in one of the operating positions for both!

Just to keep you informed. Next shipment is scheduled for the end of this month.  We are pushing to do it as fast as possible  while not compromising  quality in any way.
All units are fully tested on full power, all bands in SO2R mode for 12 hours. Our new test software makes it easy as the process is now fully automated. Final test includes calibration check and adjustment as well as detailed technical test report for each unit.

Note: Units on photo are without Top cover

If he purchased today it will probably ship in April. But I think preorders will start going out soon. Alpha testers are working with Flex dev team to get software ironed out. They are making good progress. Ranko ran the amp at EF8U last weekend. Other alphas have also been testing it out. I think we are seeing good progress. Time will tell.

@Bill K - Methinks your there has been some confusion, as my recent direct FRS update was not what you've heard secondhand.

Wouldn't be surprised if an order placed now would have that 100+ day build time though.

I keep thinking of the lyrics from "The Boxer" when I see posts dismissive of FRS actual direct communications - that line "Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest..."

I'd venture that we will be hearing more PG XLs on the air fairly soon, and not just the Advisory Team's or Alpha Team's using them.

With no FRS announcement to the contrary, the new radios appear to be on schedule.

But as they say "the proof is in the puddin' " so with eager anticipation let's watch, wait and see!

What exactly is the size of the first run? There have been so many discussions around shipping dates, but zero transparency on how many units will actually ship. The same applies to the new rigs as well, not just the amps.

In the case of the amps, it is important that the amp is NOT a Flex product; it is built by a third party and marketed/sold as an amp for everyone, not just Flex. So it is quite useful to understand the size of the first run.

@Varistor - If one were in FRS shoes as asked lot sized questions would we answer to the question?  Would we/should we be that transparent?

Without knowing home many production lots are in the pipeline and their relative spacing what does lot size do for us either as an end user, or if we were the one being asked?

As without knowing what the overall volume and forward build plans both are, what could it tells us if they did answer?

Then unless a person knew where their order was in sequence, and knew how many who ordered before us deferred delivery or perhaps dropped out, they wouldn't be able to predict when their order would look to ship.

Some milestones dates that might be useful to know is what is the anticipated lead on new orders and when would FRS project to have uncommitted inventory available?

Being keenly interested is an awesome thing, but in my case my interest will peak up when FRS asks for payment.  Each person will see it differently, and there is no harm in asking, though I personally have enough doubts about hypothetically answering the questions if roles were reversed with FRS that we perhaps cannot expect much.

I have a number but I don't think I am clear to reveal it. That said, go by what the emails say. They will have the 1st and 2nd production run covered, and should be shipping out everything by early 2018.  Don't waste your time asking for an exact number. That is proprietary info. And no, they don't owe anyone any transparency. Especially not if they work for the competition. "It'll be ready when it's ready."

As far as the amp being a FlexRadio product - yes it is made by 4O3A. But in many respects it is a FlexRadio optimized product. The LAN integration works best with FlexRadio. Think of it like an icom PW1 - it will work with any radio but works best with Icom.

First things first. I have a PW-1 and if that is what I am getting then that is a problem. They are terribly designed.

Next I was told by FRS that I would have mine this year in December. Unless they tell me directly that I am not I hold them to that timeline.

It's not a PW1. I only used that as an example. The amplifier will be tightly integrated into SmartSDR. In other words, it will work best with SmartSDR. It will work with other radios but it will work best with SmartSDR.

That is exactly why I bought it! I told FRS not to deliver the amp ahead of the radio. I will not use it with any other radio. It is dedicated to operate with the 6600M exclusively! My pious hope is that it operates trouble free with their radios right out of the box!

As far as timelines go, I will say this - testing and software integration is going really well. So once they finalize the software, they will be ready to go out the door. I don’t think it is batches of 10. The number 10 was the alpha/beta test units. It is a few days after CQWW CW. The team has data to go over and things to adjust in the software. Ranko used his at EA8 and Craig, K9CT used his in two contests so far. So it’s going well. I don’t think Flex wants to delay this too long and I don’t think there is any reason to.

Keep your eyes peeled for emails as they will have the latest info.

K9ZW     If a company takes money to reserve a product that is promised in a given time frame then they should be transparent enough to let the purchaser know they are not meeting their commitment. Even from the delivery date Ria stated above, the date promised to me two weeks ago has slipped two months! Now that is significant. You know that the IDXC at Visalia is in April. If production slips past that date maybe there should be some concern?  At HAMCON in Torrance FRS did not have even a prototype of either the PGXL or the 6600. Now that was 3 months ago. So my expectation is mid to late 2018.

Finally my friend who just reserved a 6600M and reserved a PGXL earlier said that the amplifiers are coming out in lots of 10. I was told by FRS that the reservation were nearing 1000. Do the math. He was also told that parts availability is still an issue.

The point I am making is that FRS should keep us apprised of the moving delivery date and we should not hear it from someone who just made the purchase. Yes.... it was about the first articles not the one he reserved today. In fact he reserved his amplifier ta HAMCON so he was not concerned about later runs!

Guess we will have to wait and see.

BTW wasn’t Hamcon mid-September? Gerald had already gone into print that production run One was filled, production run Two was almost filled and they were planning production run Three - and that was first week of August.

The only place I ever saw a production lot size mentioned was for a single batch of pre-production PG XLs destined for Alpha Team and FRS use. I must have missed the batch size information for actual production units being announced.

I’m patient - when my Visa Card vibrates in my pocket, I’ll know it’ll be my time to watch for UPS....

All best and 73,

Steve

@ Bill K.

Your post is incorrect.  On November 21st, we sent a detailed status of the FLEX-6400(M)/FLEX-6600(M) production status.  Nothing has changed since that update was sent to all pre-order customers and posted on this forum a week ago.

Also, we do not give information on production build quantities, lot sizes, or shipment rates for competitive reasons so your numbers are not based on any facts from FlexRadio.

PowerGenius XL is in production and has shipped a few weeks ago to a sizable number of beta customers so we can complete final software integration testing.  Many stations operated the amplifier in the Sweepstakes and CQWW CW contests over the last two weeks with much success.  We are in the process of expanding the number of customers testing outside of those who use FlexRadio to verify integration with other radios.  Once we are comfortable that we have worked through any reported issues, we will begin shipments to general release customers.  Meanwhile, production is in full swing so that we can commence general shipment flow when that testing is complete.

Bill, sales reviewed the information sent you you regarding your order and to the best of our current knowledge, it is still correct.

I might have thrown it away however I have all the posts from this web page and they go to my inbox. I am usually very good at filing emails. I do not throw away many. Maybe I am not on the mail list. I received the email from flexinsider today right after I made the post. Maybe someone forwarded it to me?
