Observation on fan cleaning

After following Tim's instructions on cleaning the fans in my 6300, I observe that the radio is running a good 10 degrees C cooler than before the cleaning.  My only question is how often should I repeat the cleaning?

What were your before and after temps? I have a used 6300 and I’d like to compare.

Thanks

Idle temperature before cleaning ~52C.  After cleaning ~42C.  During use, the temp would get to 65C -- after cleaning ~53C.

10 c is a huge drop.  How often to clean would depend on the environment. Checking the delta temp between device and ambient would give an indication of when it's time to clean.

What I did was buy replacement filters for air purifiers. cut to size and placed them in front of the side fans in between the cabinet walls. These filters are black and are thin. I see no temp difference with them installed.  I keep an eye on them to see if they become clogged every once and a while.

Flex does not recommend this for good reasons because they can not control what kind of filters are used by the customer.

I only run my radio at about 30w into my amp and I mostly only use sideband. I feel this is not stressing the radio with the filters in place.

Everything is running well still.

Great idea!    I use a white filter material that I found in a Big Box store, cut to size.  I hold it on the out side of the radio with magnets.  Clean them every month or two.   The ham shack also serves as the cats rest room.   Only problem is that I cant get the Flex to close other equipment with steel dust covers.

I got these at Walmart, they are firm and breath well. They nicely slip in between the case walls out of site.

I use a magnetic filter on my PC that I plan of getting for the Flex as well. They stick right to the case and come off easily for cleaning. Several different manufacturers out there to choose from. Just be sure to get the correct size. Below is an example:
