Now that 1.3.xx is out and about, will the product roadmap be updated with new stuff?

Since the roadmap was posted in May of 2014, no changes have been made to it. Besides the 2 items currently in the published roadmap, are there any other new things coming for the next release (October-ish)?

FM and LAN are the primary items for v1.4.  When we announced the opening of the SmartSDR API recently, we also announced a Waveform API which allows the addition of new modes by third parties.  Our reference port is for FreeDV/CODEC2 which we demonstrated in operation at the TAPR DCC a few weeks ago.  We plan to have this mode native in the radio for v1.4.  For licensing reasons, it will be a separate download.

We are planning what we will do after v1.4 now and will be updating the roadmap when planning is completed, probably in a few weeks.

I understand that there will be a maintenance release for the 1.3 branch too. Can that be included in the 'map as well?

It is a flash of brilliance to release those APIs. One only has to see what doing similar things has done to motivate communities to dramatically improve the original product, from hobbyists to new companies being formed. *Everybody* wins.

We will likely have the v1.3 maintenance release out before the roadmap is updated.  An Alpha of that release goes out today.

We are very excited about the API possibilities and we're already seeing a lot of activity and we agree -- the goal is for everybody to win.

Steve, for those of us "API Challenged" - what are a few examples that might come to fruition?

Alan, one API will provide an easier and more direct way for applications to control the rig and the other will allow for the inclusion of more modes, natively AIUI.

Addition of new modes written by others (not FlexRadio) is the big thing we recently enabled with the Waveform API.
