I was playing around on 6 meters and noticed that with the RF gain set to zero my mouse kevel was S3 set at 10db the noise was S2 and at 20db the noise was S1 and signal levels seemed to remain constant.... normal?

here in hopes it is useful; For others that may be reading this thread, the following was shared with us about the proper way to use the Attenuator/PreAmp slider;

I recommend that you refer to this article on how the RF preamp works in our radios. In summary, if the antenna is not noise limited, increasing the RF preamp gain will decrease the noise floor while the signal strength stays the same which improves your signal to noise ratio (SNR).
