No Panadapter or Waterfall display through SoftEther bridge

I have set up the SoftEther VPN bridge/server on a Windows 10 PC on my home network.  I have also installed the SoftEther bridge client on another Windows 10 Laptop.  Connecting my Maestro, I am able to get the audio streams, metering and Maestro control to function, however I am not getting any Panadapter or waterfall to display.  I'm using my iPhone as my hotspot (WiFi).   The bridge goes from the WiFi adapter to the on-board 1000 GB Ethernet port.
II get the same type of results when connecting my IPad to the VPN and run either Stu's IPad app or Marks Beta App.  I also get the same result when connecting my laptop directly to the VPN and run SmartSDR.

I have the following ports opened on my router:
  • 1194 TCP & UDP
  • 443 TCP
  • 992 TCP
  • 5555 TCP
  • 500 UDP
  • 4500 UDP
Any idea's?

FYI...I have Google Fiber 1000 MB service

I'm experiencing the same thing Jay.  Thinking my desktop might be the problem I loaded v1.7.30 on two other computers this morning and got the same results, no waterfall or spectrum display.

Jay, I seem to remember reading somewhere on this Community that some folks were having this type of trouble due to Windows firewall settings.  I don't remember any of the specifics, since i just glanced at them several months ago.  You might do a Community search for that if you haven't already.  I don't know if SoftEther and Windows firewalls are competing with each other?

Hi Ken,

I had thought about that possibility and turned the Windows Firewall off, so it should have been out of play.

Thanks for the help!

Have you made an exception for SmartSDR on the laptop firewall? Some firewall's need the exception deleted and recreated every time you upgrade SmartSDR.

Thanks David.  I've tried with the Windows Firewall disabled.

Jay,

Don't forget that in a typical 2 x PC + Router setups you may actually have 5 firewalls!   i.e:-

- the obvious one in the router
- Windows own F/W - one in each PC
- Any 3rd party security package - one in each PC

Try disabling them all and see if it then works. No risk for a few minutes but obviously don't leave it like that. Also does the iPhone hotspot create firewall rules of its own?

The other thing to try is to reconfigure the router and place the F6k IP in the Routers DMZ table.

Another thing came to mind. I had an issue using my phone as a hotspot. The local network IP subnet that the hotspot created was the same as my home network. I changed the home network to 10.0.4.x instead of 192.168.1.x and it solved the issues you describe when I was using Stu's iPad app.

I just added a firewall exception in my virus software for SSDR (v1.7.30) and my panadapter and waterfall displays now work!  Thanks Ken!
