No output power

N6OIL
N6OIL Member ✭✭
Ok gang now that I got my receive issue working I have no output power. I have tried all modes and bands and I get nothing on either the Flex Meter or RF power meter on SSDR. Gain is all the way up and yes I have antennas on ANT1 and ANT2 and nothing on either one of them. Anyone have any ides? Running SSDR 1.9.9.170 and  HW 1.9.9.86 Flex6500.  Oh I tried with the foot switch and the tune button.

Take a look at the A slice. Is the TX in RED? If not, you need to select it to TX.

We need pictures of SmartSDR to see what is going on.

Hi Craig, yes the RED TX is pressed and goes red when in xmit mode. Tim I'll upload screen scrapes soon, and Tim this just came back from a fan failure repair.

Checking that your RadioSport headset cable has the under the cover bias switches set correctly and that you have bias power set up will save you from a frustration I had. Took me way too long to figure out I had software in operating configuration but had forgot about the hardware configuration issues with a new headset. 73 Steve K9ZW

But I should get full output power in tune mode, correct regardless if my headset is hooked up or not?

Sometimes the best thing is to do a factory reset and start with a clean profile. Something could have become Mis-set or corrupted.

George I think you might be right, I'll give it a go and report back. Thanks

Based on your screen shot. You should be getting about 5 watts. That where the tune power setting apppears to be. Tune power is the slider right below the power slider

We have the same problem on one of our 6700 at pa0wmr  under 1.9.9.

Under 1.7.3 all is working without any problem.

Rory, hope you get that solved.  What is "Flex Meter" and where do I find it?  Been searching...

You could try reading the manual. Many issues people seem to have is a result of not reading the instructions.

    Rory,

I know exactly what's wrong.  I can see from the video capture you uploaded that you have *Default selected as the Mic profile.  Save the Mic profile as a new custom name and try again and everything will work perfectly..

What would the MIC have to do with being able to put out a carrier in AM or CW, I should get power showing up on the RF power meter. Trust me I did try other profiles. The rig will not put out power.

Okay. It seemed to me to very much like the exact same problem that I ran into and spent two days trying to fix, but based on your last upload I can see it's different.

I appears to be a problem with the PA circuit and I would open up a help desk ticket with Flex at this point.

What does it do when you leave it in ssb and hit tune? You don't need to go to am for that. Try tuning from USB mode. It doesn't seem that you have near enough mic gain set to drive it to full output. Is your mic plugged into the front connector, or the Balanced connector in the back? Do you have the mic bias set if needed? Do you have the +20 mic gain set if needed? Your mic level should peak just under the "0" dB line on the mic level meter (into the yellow, but never into the red) for full output on ssb. In the pull-down menu Settings>radio> transmit. Do you have maximum power output set to anything other than 100? Do you accidentally have the TX inhibit control port setting engaged? Ken - NM9P

In SSB with full mic gain I get nothing on RF output but I do see it in the scope, mic is in front and bias is set to enable and +20, power is set to 100 in the radio prefs, TX Inhibit is disabled if it was enable I wouldn't be able to key the radio. I think the RF deck is kaput.

If none of the inhibit switches are set, and you get no power output on tune when in ssb mode with tune power at maximum. Assuming that the tx max power override is not set in the setup menus, then you need to open a help desk ticket.

Try down-grade to SSDR 1.6 or 1.7.  To our experience it has to to with SSDR 1.9.

What do You see at the SWR meter in SSDR ?

Ok this will be probably my last post on this until I hear from tech support. I did open a ticket so I will have to wait till Monday. So this is what I have done so far, I downgraded to 1.7 with no luck, I did find a nifty tool to remove all of the drivers and audio ports in device manager without having to click one by one and delete. Used a program called Device Cleanup. So now I have a $4000 radio that I can only listen on. Yes I'm frustrated because I had time this weekend between soccer games to play radio. Guess I'll hook up the TS-820S and go analog!

Seems like good driver power before PA stage, wonder if a relay is out or no
Vsupply on Main PA deck (is there a fuse somewhere?),loose ribbon cable, loose Fan
cable back to CPU board to control RPM of Fan vs Temp, Tx inhibit, board issue, etc.
Does Flex have schematics ? Guess  i am a Hardware Engineer.image

    I feel your frustration!!
Just a shot in the dark... what is the TX power set to in the Setup window?
Make sure it is set to 100.

Also, are you running DDutil or any 3rd party software that might have any effect on power settings?

    Good luck!
