N1MM Macros question

I have never used my 6300 with N1MM.   I have it working and am planning on cutting my teeth during the NW CW qso party tomorrow.  N1MM works fine I can xmit however,  I assumed F2Exch would send my name - state (Mike WV).  It is defaulting to 5NN WV TU.   I changed my CWX F2 setting to MIKE WV and that does work correctly.   Wondering what I am doing wrong.

Thanks,

Do you mean the NA QSO party?

I just checked - I'm new at N1MM+ also.

Within the database I created a new log specifying the NAQPCW contest. In the same window I have a sent exchange set up. Here's what it looks like for me...

If you click the Show Setup button it will take you to the N1MM site with specific instructions for this contest.

I use ESM mode so I type in a callsign in the log window and hit enter. It sends my call. When I get an answer I fill in his name and state and hit enter. N1MM sends:

599 KEVIN VA

and then logs the contact. I'm ready for the next one. I didn't have to modify the macros or anything. But F2 looks like this for me:

F2 Exch,{SENTRSTCUT} {EXCH}

Now this is in S&P  mode which I'll mostly operate (QRP) but I think it would be similar for Run mode.

73 and Good luck tomorrow,

Ok,  been doing some reading.  CATASC KY looks to me like that is how N1MM is keying the 6300.   thx

CATASC I thought was using CWX for keying. In my case, I'm using winkey and have a winkey port set up in SmartCAT. I'm not sure which is better. I used winkey in a contest a while ago and there were some odd delays. I'll be trying it again tomorrow.

If you stick with your settings tomorrow, post back how well it worked and maybe we can compare notes.

there are still some issues with the winkey emulation that we hope have been corrected in the current alpha but have not made it to public release yet.  if you do use the winkey ensure you do NOT put those CATASC KY commands in your macros.  Those are used when keying via radio command.  There are some advantages to using winkey vs KY commands which is why the wk emulation was added.  It can be confusing since there are multiple keying methods available.

Dang! I'm all set up for winkey. I should expect problems with that? Not sure how to revert to CAT commands or if I should.

It wouldn't be a contest for me without these last minute gotchas. Part of the fun. :)

confirmed... but is still there. sheesh.

Used N1MM in the contest yesterday.  Not trying for big scores but made 100 contacts.  Had no issues with N1MM / 6300.  Every time I hit a macro it worked.  Not a power user by any means but  I was pleased with how N1MM, CW skimmer and SmartSDR played together.

I probably should have gone with the CWX macros like you did and things would have gone a lot smoother for me. Not sure what I was thinking.

I think as you use your 6300 in more contests and DX hunting you'll find yourself drawn into constantly checking the contest calendar. It seems even casual efforts with the Signature beats my score and fun quotient expectations every time.
