N1MM+ cw delay with N1MM+ and 2.3.9

I am using SSDR 2.3.9 and the current version of N1MM+. Yesterday in NAQP cw I noticed "random delays" when sending exchanges, calling CQ and answering stations. There didin't seem to be a pattern for the delay. Some times it was at the start of a message, sometimes in the middle and sometimes at the end of a message switching over to RX. You could have several QSO or an extended period of time with no problems and then hit a key and get a delay. I don't recall ever having this problem with previous versions of SSDR or N1MM+.

Rig is a 6600 with version one of the Maestro (the one you annoyingly have to keep plugged in and use or it dies)

Mike, you didn't mention how you are generating the CW -- is it via the WinKey emulator in SSDR, or a stand-alone WinKeyer? I have previously noted similar problems with the emulator, and have since used a WinKeyer connected to the PC with a USB cable. Keying is perfect with this setup, using N1MM+, WriteLog or DX4Win. I haven't tried it yet with DXLab, but am sure it will work OK with that, too.

I had the same problem in NAQP when operating remote.  In the past, I had blamed the Flex Winkeyer emulation or SmartSDR.

This time I hooked the real physical Winkeyer to the computer at the remote site that was running N1MM+.  The output of the Winkeyer was hooked to the tip of the Flex 6300 front keying jack.

It was usually a delay between the first character of an N1MM+ message as in CQ NA coming out as C Q NA.  Sometimes it was just before the last character of a message as in TU K1ESE coming out as TU K1ES E

It really was a problem when the N1MM+ exchange message was "his call JOHN ME" as in  "W1AW JOHN ME" coming out as "W 1AW JOHN ME".  As soon as the other station heard the first letter and delay, he sent his call again while I was sending the exchange.  All rhythm was gone from the QSO and it took repeats to fix it.

I sure would like to fix this, but not sure it's a Flex issue?

First, make sure you find out whether it is the side tone from the radio or your actual signal on air. I am saying this because I know there is a problem that the flex team is looking into currently with the first character being chopped. That issue appears to be only in the side tone but not in the HF signal. More to read here: https://community.flexradio.com/flexradio/topics/missing-first-element-in-sidetone

Apart from this, but somewhat related: I have started playing with SO2R and the flex and N1MM+. Some good settings or current short comings are documented in this thread: https://community.flexradio.com/flexradio/topics/after-transmit-slice-not-selected-flex-do-not-follo...

Thanks, but it's not just the sidetone, as I noted above other ops receiving my RF signal are confused by the delay.  And, it was not SO2R.

Is this a well known widespread issue?  I am getting ready to buy 6600M soon and this is a show stopper for a CW contester like myself.  I will also be running SO2R and have read about issues with CW and N1MM+ ?  Joe N3HEE

I am getting the same issue running a 6600M and the winkeyer emulator with version 2.3.9.

So so is this a new issue with this version of software?

Does using a real winkeyer cure the problem?

If you have "spots" enabled, try and see if disabling it helps...
