Missing "non-reserved" DAX Audio

I was using DAX Audio RX1 to connect to FLDigi in a Win10 PC, SmartSDR 2.0.19.  Today, the only DAX audio I see is the "RESERVED" DAX audio.  It seems that FLDigi works with "DAX RESERVED RX1 AUDIO" but the manual says that I should avoid the reserved channels.  Does anyone know how to get back the "non-reserved" channels?  Looking at the sound window, those channels are absent. I have rebooted the PC and restarted the 6500. No change. Note: Now I see the "non-reserved" DAX audio channels in the "record" tab, rather than the playback tab, so i can't select one from the speaker icon on the task bar.

The manual is correct about not selecting/using the reserved DAX devices. The reserved devices are the windows sound devices that the rig connects to.

The DAX RX devices in the Record Tab are the devices you should select.

Confusing right?

Notice also, that DAX TX is available in the Playback Tab.

I don't know if Microsoft got it wrong or if they got it right.

It is what it is.

Fldigi uses its own naming scheme which confuses things slightly more.

You should see and be able to select one of the DAX RX devices/channels in the Capture dropdown list in Fldigi. There also should be A DAX TX device listed in Fldigi's Playback dropdown list.

The way I think of it, a DAX RX channel has audio coming out of it that needs to be "Captured" by Fldigi. I think of the DAX TX device as an input that Fldigi connects to in order to send audio to the rig.

Microsoft's Recording Devices, are devices with audio streams you can record/listen to.

Microsoft's Playback Devices, are devices you can send audio to, or speak into.

Try not to think about it.
It will probably work anyway.

If it does, then it's right. If it doesn't it's wrong.

Let it be!

A phrase I heard/learned by Playing, Records!
