Maestro Locks Up: Pan Adapter and Waterfall Disapear

Lately my Maestro will lock up and I have to shut it down.

When this happens the area where the pan adapter and water fall goes blank.  The A and B slice information with the s meter is still on the screen.

I have to reboot in order to operate.

I'm running version 1.7.32.15 on the Maestro and version 1.7.30.78 on the 6700.

Any ideas?

I get the same lockup on Maestro with no panadapter and no waterfall but only when I use a wifi connection. If I am wired with the ethernet cable to my 6700 then Maestro works as advertised.

Mine too!

I notice that when I reboot the Maestro, the link quality is poor even though I'm on an Ethernet connection between the Maestro, through one Ethernet switch to a 6300.  Link quality will sometimes show some green but it's usually no more than two yellow bars , then one red bar and back to yellow.  This cycle goes on for a while, then the crash comes just as you described.

After a Maestro reboot, it it will show poor link quality and operations may only last for an hour or two before it crashes again.

Rebooting the 6300 seems to bring things back to normal for several hours or for as much as a day or so before it starts up again.

I thought this issue was resolved but today the Maestro crashed again as described above with no waterfall or spectrum display but the rest showing.

This is the first time it's done this since I successfully updated the 6300 and the Maestro to 1.8.3.

The upgrade went well.  I wouldn't have done it but it was before 1.8.3 was recalled for the Maestro so I guess I got lucky doing the upgrade.

I thought the issue of the spectrum and waterfall crash had been resolved by either the upgrade or because I changed the Ethernet switch to a different model but it now appears that this is not the case.

My poor Ethernet connectivity issue does seem resolved by one or the other as I now get green bars continuously.

Tim,  Is this crash of the display an otherwise known issue on track for a fix?  Do we need to open help desk tickets?  Please tell us what you know.

Thanks you!

Bob,

What other software are you running on your pc when the Maestro locks up?  I'm trying to figure out if there is a common application that may be causing the problem.

I entered a help ticket yesterday.

At this point I'm going back to SDR on the pc as the lockups are happening right in the middle of qso's.

I'm running the following when the lockup occurs:
HRD 6.3
Digital Master 6.3
DDUtil
DAX 1.83
CAT 1.83

I've played around stopping applications to see if a particular application causes the lockup, but so far I have not found a correlation.

Rich,

It's hard for me to see how the PC would have anything to do with this problem.  It's my understanding that the Maestro doesn't communicate with the PC.  I suppose that CAT and DAX might be involved with the 6300 so I'll turn them off to see what happens.

I'm running HRD 5.0.24.38, PstRotatorAZ v11.83, KPA-500 Remote, Com0Com.  These are COM Port devices and are for turning antennas, changing the SteppIR, Etc.  They should have nothing to do with the Flex.

Your probably correct Bob, thought I'd see if there is anything common between our setups.

Hopefully Flex will get back to us via my ticket in a few days.

Hi Rich & Bob,

I opened a help desk ticket on this exact issue on May 27.

Dudley has been working with me on it to no avail. He suggested that the next software update MIGHT correct the problem.

As you said it freezes up right during a QSO sometimes. Other times just at will radio in receive mode....not transmitting.

Sooooo I have STOPPED USING THE MAESTRO. Period. This IS A DEAL BREAKER for me on the Maestro. If it cannot be fixed I would like a refund.

Dudley replied to my help ticket yesterday.  I did not have time to go through his email last night but will this evening.  In a nutshell the issue appears to be losing connection with the 6700.

I have my Maestro connected to my network via hard wire eithernet as well as wireless.  What has grabbed my attention is (for lack of a better term) the connection level bar meter is normally in the red or only a couple bars at best.

I'm going to go through Dudley's trouble shooting tips this evening.

I'll report back with my results.

I have been operating remote from my station at home to the UK using both my notebook connected to my 6700 and the Maestro connected to my 6300 at the same time and upgraded to 1.8 at the time it was released and all is working well, I have tested working with the 6700 and switching it to the Maestro back and forth with no issues or crashes.

In all cases my internet connection status is poor with one red bar only no matter which connection I used, I have a fiber connection at both locations.

The only time the Maestro looses the pan adapter is when there is a network problem i.e. loosing the VPN connection and as soon as the connection is up again the Maestro pan adapter is up again without restarting or rebooting.

I have faced many problems when using the notebook wireless internet connection, when I replaced the wireless internet connection by installing a USB 3.0 Gigabit Internet adapter everything worked fine, I did not change the connections settings in the SoftEther VPN nor the Maestro Bridged connection which was connected to the notebook built-in Ethernet card.

Monitor and check the latency numbers and dropped packets, I have noticed high latency peeks up to 4000 ms and a high rate of dropped packets when I was on the wireless internet connection.

I was having the same prioblem here.  Since connecting the 6500 and maestro to a 10/100mbs switch I have had no problems with the signal meter dropping into red.  It seems to happen with gigabit switches. Solid as a rock now.  Either that or if you gigabit switch is managed, go into settings and set the two ports, flex and maestro ports to 100mbs.   My 6500 works no problems with smartsdr on pc with gigabit, but when the maestro is in the mix, it seems to need 100mbs.  Try that, Ive had no problems since this change

Cheers
Wayne

ps the switch i bought is this one, for only $15 it was worth a try

http://www.tp-link.com.au/products/details/TL-SF1008D.html

but im guessing any 10/100mbs switch will have the same result.

Interesting, I'll have to dig through my junk box to see if I have a 10/100.  Currently I'm running a Cisco gigabit switch.

I remembered I have a rack mountable switch that's 10/100.  I'll give it a try this weekend after IARU.

I've been holding solid green bars all evening.  Don't know why but I'm not messing with it.  HI HI

After five days with DAX and CAT turned off on the PC, the Maestro is solid. I'm beginning to wonder if the DAX to 6300 via GB switch is somehow disrupting the Maestro to 6300 traffic through the same switch.

I found the 10/100 rack mount switch I was looking for.  I installed it a couple days ago.  Everything is solid now.  I have all green bars and the Maestro stays connected until I disconnect it by power down.

If and when the gigabit switch worked, the strength meter would bounce all over the place.

Thanks to Wayne, VK4ACN and Dudley, WA5QPZ.

Rich, I noticed in your picture that the WiFi is not being recieved by your Maestro. Try connecting it with an Ethernet cable to your Ethernet switch and see what happens. Good luck.
