Just a Thought About Software

I really enjoy reading all the different posts that are on the Flex Community Reflector. Just a thought, and I may be totally off with my thought. But with all the varieties of Third Party Software one can run with the Flex SSDR, could it be that running all those programs could be conflicting with the main SSDR program? Would it not be better to have some of these programs built into SSDR instead of having to load them individually? Just a thought! Mark Griffin, KB3Z

AND !!!!!!, NO, again.

Software should be written to do ONE thing well, other software can be written to do other things well. Get that one thing right, first. Then we can troubleshoot the other software to discover the real problem.

Divide and Conquer!

I'd rather have an infinite number of right, than one big, bloated wrong.

No thanks Mark. I like my software lean and mean and prefer to use extra programs* when needed. *Those programs have actually been written with a small footprint as their usage cannot be hidden like the extra code in the main program to do the same thing.

actually Yes ...

the one thing is that these 3rd party programs are written to cover up deficiencies in the feature set of SSDR.

Control of external devices for example .. DDUTIL covers up the fact that SSDR is poor lacking in control of hardware around the shack.

Can you imagine telling an Icom/kenwood/yaesu/ user that he needs to run an external program so he can interface his amp!

While DDUTIL offers a lot more this basic functionality should be 'in' the Flex 6K/SSDR stacks

I don't want to turn SSDR into bloatware but there should be some better inbuilt support coming for managing external devices etc

It's supposed to come soon on 1.6 ... will see how much support it gets

But I don't want to keep relying on an external PC with 3rd party plug ins and widgets to do basic stuff

So yes ... but no

:)

plain as mud huh!

Cheers
