Issues upgrading to 1.4.11

Others have reported this, I believe, but on earlier releases where I didn't experience the problem.

Prior to upgrading to 1.4.11, I uninstalled 1.4.3, as not doing that in the past had proved problematic.
I turned the radio on and started SSDR 1.4.11. Oddly the radio never appeared in the list box. I waited, and waited, and waited and no radio. I only have the one. So I thought perhaps I needed to stop the radio, kill power, rotate clockwise three revolutions then power on the PS and restart the radio.

Virtually immediately the radio appeared in update mode. I thought to myself, "self, that was incredibly quick". I wasn't sure that the radio had finished it's clicking yet.

Just as I depressed upgrade, the radio disappeared.

Some moments later the radio reappeared and I proceeded with the update.

Where I can't diff the GUI, did the logic there change as far as discovery?

In my case I installed 1.4.11 without uninstalling 1.4.3.

1. Close all SmartSDR programs (CAT, DAX and Main program)
2. Install the downloaded 1.4.11 installer.
3. Delete the Shortcuts to 1.4.3 in the desktop to avoid confusion
4. Turn ON radio
5. Once installed run SmartSDR 1.4.11
6. Push Yellow button UPGRADE in the window
7. Radio (6300) reboots once and in about 5 mins the upgrade is installed.
8. Everything works, profiles retained.

I always remove power from my radio AFTER the firmware update and do a hard reboot to make sure.

The discovery logic is independent of whether or not a prior version was uninstalled. I will add this, the update was initiated on a fresh boot of the laptop, there were no remnants of any prior execution. In fact after the uninstall there was a reboot. This issue is not tied to the state of 1.4.3. I speculate that the GUI was changed with regard to discovery. Also, I believe the nickname is no longer reflected on the radio but I will wait until I turn it on again before I open a problem on it.

Sal, I opened this thread to report something that didn't work as expected. It really doesn't require everybody who didn't see the same issue to detail their steps in upgrading.

The yellow bar went fully to the right but the update button was still on. The 6500 light was green and everything just sat there as if it was done but no indication of such. I waited for a good 10 minutes and nothing happened so closed the software loader, shut down the rig and started everything as I normally do and it came right up.
Something isn't quiet normal in the install process but now it works ok.

That's a little weird Steve as in my case, when it did update, the yellow progress bar maybe made it 1/2 way and then the yellow Update/ green Connect transitioned to Connect. This on Windows 7.

Two auto reboots and 1/2 way yellow for me as well. Upgrade to 1.4.11 went flawlessly and fixed an old issue that that I had w/ 1.4.3 which was a bogus ip address being generated for the flex when it was connected directly to my pc. FRS team provided a convenient and reliable solution in the interim and a permanent solution w/ 1.4.11.  I am looking forward to utilizing the upgrades w/in 1.4.11.

Wondering why an uninstall of the old version, as FRS has recommended not to do this?

When electing an abnormal upgrade process it isn't unreasonable to have abnormal indications, much less have to further deviate from the expected update process.  Self Inflicted issues.

Fortunately you had good results in the end!

You didn't mention if you had to do a factory reset of the radio - that has been needed at times here when switching between the 6700 and 6300 with some upgrade mix-n-match.

Am I completely stupid? It seems to me that Version 1.4.3 should be later than Version 1.4.11.

Can someone tell me why (IF!) I am wrong to think that.

This was answered in another question

But simply if you ignore the 1.4 then 11 is larger than 3

Do not think of the periods as decimal points but rather delimiters separating the parts of the version.
