As a prospective 6xxx buyer it's important to me that DAXIQ and remote can be in use simultaneously. LAN would be nice, WAN would be even better. I cannot find an answer in the literature - could someone at FRS confirm this please?

I have used HDSDR simultaneously with SmartSDR. HDSDR was used for recording the 40 meter band using DAXIQ. This was on the LAN. I have not tried it using VPN on a WAN.

Yes, DAX works, but it consumes a significant amount of bandwidth on your WAN. You want to make sure that your have amble bandwidth and I would also check your bufferbloat score. You'll want it to be a B or an A. www.dslreports/speedtest.

Thanks for the comments Mike. The scenario would only involve DAXIQ on the computer adjacent to the radio - not over LAN or WAN. I was hoping that LAN and/or WAN remote would be possible for normal transceiver use at the same time though. So WAN bandwidth ought not be an issue (150M down/10M up should be sufficient from what I have read). Cheers.

Make sure you test it. I was at a Customers on Friday and they have 25 down and 10M up. The Bufferbloat test wasn't very good (F). When I tried my iPad to see what it was like, it was not even usable. Listening to white noise on a data stream is a great way to tell just how good your streaming is.
The human ear does a great job of letting you know there are lost packets in white noise. It is one of the best tuning aids I have for network streaming.

Thanks for the suggestions Mike. I do already use remote successfully with an SDRIQ/FTdx5000 albeit with just 200 kHz of spectrum at a time but this does expose latency problems if they crop up. So far this has been a reliable set-up, I just 'need' modernise a bit. Even so, I will definitely be checking my network health beforehand. I like the white noise idea by the way.

Yes, you can do that. The SmartSDR for Windows client being remote has little to do with that from an operational standpoint because DAX is a seperate and independent software package. I do this on my LAN all the time when I run 4 CWSkimmer waterfalls at the same time. CWSkimmer does not use hardware acceleration for its graphics display and will chew up a CPU with 4 instances running, so I offload that to a separate PC that is only running the DAX client.
