IQ Stream for CW Skimmer

Does using the 96K vs the 48K give you more bandwith in CW Skimmer?  Currently I am set to 48K.   If I change to 96K wondering if that will show more spectrum in CW Skimmer.

Thanks Mike, W8MLS

Yes and you can go all the way up to 192k in the 6500 and 6700.

Thanks Ria,  I will have to give it a shot.   The Idea is hopefully I dont' have to tab up/down as much in CW Skimmer.

Hi Mike and Ria,
I wish it were so.  Actually while you can change the I/O rate to 48, 96 or 192 it has no effect on the displayed spectrum in Skimmer.  (it remains about 21 KHZ).  If anyone can demonstrate increased spectrum in CWS, please post a screen shot.

There is an enhancement idea that would increase the spectrum and integrate the skimmer into the SSDR display.   Check it out here:

It currently has 31 votes and is in the top 10 on the "ideas list."

Ria,
Turning the monitor is not an option for me.  I have 3 wide screen 27" monitors and they work best for me in the landscape orientation.   In portrait mode they would be too high and also block the speakers.

integrating the live spots and/or CW skimmer spots with SSDR would be the best solution.  You could have either or both or none.  It's definitely doable and just a matter of priority.   So maybe some day....I noticed the idea picked up a few more votes.

Ria, Al... I have been think of doing what Ria said...opening a separate pan with NO slice and linking that to Skimmer Server.  Then have that server populate my N1MM+ band map only with stations that I can actually receive.  If the pan stayed put as I tuned about the band on my Slice A & B on another pan or pans, then it would be the best of both worlds.

The only thing missing is that on some CW contests, where the CW is so much faster than I can reliably copy, I still enjoy using the excellent decoder of CW Skimmer to assist/confirm what I am copying.  It is a good way to build my CW confidence.  Every contest my speed and confidence improves.

However, I have always had difficulty keeping the Skimmer display and decoder aligned to my actual frequency and the decode is sporadic at times.

I am sure this is operator/config errors between the rig, SKimmer, and SDR Bridge.

I'll get it sorted some day....

Hi Ken,
The synch between SSDR and CWS is a known issue. If you are not dead on CWS doesn't decode. Alex is aware of the issue and could improve it. One other potential fix is the "AutoZeroBeat" idea for SSDR. It's in the top 3 based on community votes.

Ken,

I still leave a slice in that panadapter dedicated to skimmer. This way I can move around the skimmer window if necessary.

Thanks Al,  I like the idea of coupling CW Skimmer to SmartSDR.    Or enhance CW Skimmer so that it supports SmartSDR without DDUtil or SDR-Bridge.

I find CW Skimmer to be cool and also extremely frustrating...

First new PC monitors are more WIDE than they are tall.  So I have two 4K monitors and when I run skimmer and make it full height it is still pretty small.  For me it would make a lot more sense to flip it so the band was displayed horizontally.  Of course this would complicate writing the text in vertical lines down the screen but it would make more sense.

Also I wish I could scale the display.  It would be fine vertically if I could make everything a little smaller.

Combine the two and it would be pretty amazing.

Lastly is when using SDR Bridge there are quirky things that happen.  It seems not perfectly synced in some way.  Hard to describe but my best example would be that it seems my decode point on skimmer is always near the bottom.  I have to manually slide the pan in SDR back and forth to get my decode point more in the center.

I sent a note to the skimmer author and basically he's moved on to other things.  He has no intention of updating the program as far as I can tell.

Hi Mark,
Here is an excerpt from a post I made in another forum.

***** CW Skimmer NEWS *****
...no more updates are planned for the current program, Alex / VE3NEA is currently working on a new and improved skimmer program.  It will be a multi-mode Skimmer with support for many SDR radios...
