intermodulation distortion

Today while operating on 6 meters I noticed considerable distortion from strong local stations.  These guys were strong but not terribly so.  Typically I could control it with use of my filters.  However hearing clicks and signal blocking (sorry that's not the proper engineering term) up to 8 khz away.  One guy had a bad signal, at least close by, but most were nice clean CW signals.  Yes I was using the pre-amplifier, but this was 6 meters and signals were weak.  Not sure there is anything else to do.  Never had this problem with my icom-756 pro III.  However, it absolutely could be something I am doing/not doing correctly with the Flexradio.  Any advice is welcome.

I have had horrible intermodulation once with a fractured centre conductor to PL259 centre pin solder joint. No effect on TX SWR etc. So check your feed line connections.
