Interface Genius & Flex Radio

What are the advantages/need of using a Interface Genius with a Flex Radio?
Flex use the DAX cables to pass audio IN/OUT for digital modes, so I can't see what would be the benefit of using the Interface Genius with a Flex, but on the 4o3a website under automation diagrams the are showing one diagram #13 with 2 Flex and a Interface Genius connected to each for running SO2R/MS/M2, but they have another diagram #5 with 3 Flex for SO2R/MS but they don't show any Interface Genius on that configuration.

Can anyone explain?

While the 6700 has built in SO2R, some may use two physical flex radios for better latency and redundancy.  Some are even using two keyboards and two computers. Also to interlock for M/S categories where you have someone else mult hunting since you can only have one transmitted signal at a time.

    Hi Ria,

    Thanks for some explaining,

From what I can see the Interface Genius has two sound cards, does CW, FSK, DVK, work like a modem, for remoting, but I don't see nothing about interlock.

So correct me if I'm wrong on any scenario below.

For the 6700/6600 with there ability for SO2R native and from what you say, I don't see much advantage while running SO2R alone, and also does CW from the build in winkeyer, if you use 2 x 6600/700 for MS/2 you can use a devoted interlock box.

For a station running SO2R with 2x 6300/400/500 this will have benefits since it can interlock the signals for you to have only 1 signal at time, with one Interface Genius plug in each radio.

I believe that the Interface Genius is better suited to traditional radios, where you can use the build in sound cards, the FSK, CW winkeyer, remoting and SO2R box.

There are additional components that may be used in a SO2R setup. From what I understand you put an IG at each radio and control with another device or maybe software. Also it has a Winkeyer. That said much of it seems superfluous to existing features built in to the radio already

Yes, from what I can see is that the Station Genius does interlock and all the routing with antennas and the rest, so maybe for the Flex would be better the Station Genius.
