I'm embarrased to ask.....but I can NEVER remember how to turn the sidetone on.

Upon starting up SSDR, I can hear signals....but if I call them....whether in CW, or on a digital mode, I don't hear my own signal...no sidetone.
And I'm blaming it on my age...but I can't remember how to turn it on.
I know I don't really have to hear my own signals but especially in CW it helps.

I stumbled on the answer the other day....but ... duh forgot how I did it.
Whether it's cw or digital modes, it's nice to be able to hear sound out when transmitting.

I found it, it's the Dax Control Panel I have to have the TX Gain almost all the way to the right or I don't hear any sound....right now it's at 77 and It's just loud enough for me to hear.
I might add that the receive gain of band noise and signals is just at midway and more than enough to hear.

They really should be about equal
So what am I doing wrong that  I need the TX gain in the Audio Streams in the DAX Control Panel before I can hear any transmitted Audio.?

When operating digital modes, audio gain is "managed" in multiple places in the signal path.  I suspect your digital mode program's gain is too low since you have to over compensate with additional DAX gain.

thanks Tim...and just before I read this...I got messages about a DAX error, and now I can't start DAX at all.
Is it possible to download DAX so I can reinstall it?

yep, no doubt about it. I can't start DAX as it goes only so far and then closes with something saying about an error.

Actually I got half of it back, I can receive wsjt-x and decode correctly, I just can't transmit
It appears to switch to transmit mode but no audio and I'm not actually sure if anything is actually being sent to the xmitter.

Any ideas? I'm sort of dead in the water.

Right now I'm doing a safety backup. Although I have one from last night. Each night I do a full system backup, althernative drives.

The funny part of this is that it was working, then it started with the not hearing and finally got to the won't even load.

I'm beginning to think that a complete reinstall of 1.5 is called for.

As I'm prone to the same type of brain cramps, I make it practice to only use one set of DAX  Numero Uno...Number 1 for Slice A
And as yet, over all the time, I have only used more than one slice a couple of times when the same DXpeditions was on two bands at the same time.

Nope, and as I always have the DAX Panel on screen full time, even a dummy like me don't make that mistake too often.
I was hoping this was a operator error.....but it looks like a trip to sunny TX for the rig.

But if you have any other ideas...I'm open to suggestions.

Before seeking a return to Austin, I would suggest a file a Help Desk ticket and perhaps one of their excellent staff can do a link-up to your computer and check it out remotely.  If it is a windows problem, or file corruption problem, or phantom sound card problem, the help desk team should be able to help sort it out.  Then if there are still roadblocks they would probably ask for a return.

Good luck.  This stuff can be very frustrating when it misbehaves, but it is pure joy when it works correctly!

Bill - you must open a HelpDesk ticket before sending your radio to us.  Dudley or I will help determine if the issue is with the radio or with a configuration problem.
