I-pad _ I know nothing!

I have been a Flex user for more than  10 years. Just traded in my 6300 and have a 6400M on the way.  I want to take advantage of remote operation and considering an I-pad. I know nothing of I-Pad or Apple products in general. I assume if I buy new, there would be no issues with compatibility, however if I look for a used I-Pad, what models work, or what models would I need to avoid?

I went to the Flex Radio website and found this:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/smartsdr-flexradio-systems/id1089157289?mt=8

As long as the device can run IOS 10, you are set.

I agree, most any recent iPad will work fine. The amount of memory in the ipad doesn't really matter. I bought an ipad 9.2(?) at Wally for a little over $200 and it works fine. Mine is wifi only. Others recommend a cellular capable one for serious remote work, like hotels, where the wifi might not be that great.

The app is well worth the money. The setup is easy, the support is good. For me, the ipad is the perfect portable connection to the Flex 6400, smaller than a laptop or Maestro.

If you know nothing about an iPad maybe you want to consider a PC tablet or the Maestro

Steve, indeed, that is where I am heading. I was overlooking tablets that run on Windows. Considering the MS Surface GO  for $399..

I recommend a windows 10 device also. The iOS app is nice but I can’t keep it from stuttering no matter how fast my download and upload speeds are.

Regarding a cellular iPad, or tethering to a cell phone or hotspot, in my experience, the data over cellular usually has short gaps on the order of tens of milliseconds. Many of these are longer than the buffers in SmartSDR IOS. As a result the audio stutters quite a bit. WiFi at hone is fine in my experience.

Thank you all! Here's where we are. I received my 6400M last Thursday. Prior to its arrive, I did a little phone swapping with my wife and landed up with a new IPhone S8 Plus. Taking into mind I was still using a Blackberry up to 5 years ago, the move from the Android  to IOS has not been as painful as I was anticipating. The 6400M and V2.XX SSDR has also been easy. I was still running V1.XX on my 6300.   I loaded SmartLink with out too much drama and with a little bit of extra reading managed to get things operating remotely with good results on the Iphone. I am still going to pick up an Ipad. I have been using a 5+ year old kindle Fire so this is as good a time to make the move.  - Steve W1TAV
