How do you key the microphone while using a remote connection

This past week I tried using my laptop tethered to my 4g phone using SmartLink back to my 6700.   It took me several tries and some fine tuning but was able to get connected.  I had a few connection dropouts which I believe were due to latency.  I think the longest stretch where I was actually connected and able to use the rig at one time was maybe 15-20 minutes.

One of the issues I had was trying to key the microphone.   While using SSB I can press the MOX button on the SmartSDR screen running on the laptop to activate the PTT.

The problem is when using FM on 2 meters.  The MOX button keys up the transmitter but there isn't any audio transmitted.

So, as far as I can tell, there isn't a nice clean way to key the 6000 while using FM mode.  The only way I could do it was to bump the level on the VOX all the way up and use the VOX button as a PTT.

There has to be a better way than this.  What am I missing folks?

I have a 6300 and there is no easy way to use both while in remote, it's either  keying 2 meters transverter or an amp on HF can't have both there, if barefoot on HF no problem, I use a headset mic plugged into the laptop for remote laptop in the other room with the remote highlighted, you also need the mic/acc/pc set to pc in the p/cw tab, once working just use the Mox to key and talk for ssb or 2 meter fm

That's exactly what I was trying to do John.  I have mic/acc/pc set and I am using the 2m band that is built into the 6700.  When in SSB, the MOX button will act as a PTT and I will get audio out.  When I switch mode to FM, MOX will key the rig but I don't get any audio output.  The rig is going into TX, but no audio out.

This appears to be an issue with the 6700 and SmartSDR.  This also happens when I am sitting in my office next to the rig.   MOX keys the rigs PTT circuit but fails to allow audio output when on 2m FM.

Anyone else NOT having this issue?

I just tested remote from my office on my 6500 in transverter mode.  Even though I don't have a transverter hooked up, the signals are sent to the transverter port.
I set up using two slices and full duplex mode, just as I do when testing and adjusting my SSB audio settings.

When I did my initial test with FM and clicked the MOX button, I got carrier and no audio.  hmmm.  So I activated VOX and sent a few transmissions.  Audio was fine.
I then hit MOX and transmitted a few times with the VOX still active.  The signal was just fine.

SO I unkeyed and turned VOX back OFF and hit the MOX button.
This time the audio was just fine.

I have not yet been able to recreate the "no audio with MOX" issue remotely on my 6500, even after several tries.

This may indeed be a 6700 issue.
Perhaps you may want to test with VOX as I did and see if things are different.
You might also try with FMN and then switch back to regular FM.
Also try changing mic profiles back and forth and see if things get "unstuck.".

I have read about this issue on the 6700, but since I don't have one, or use a transverter on my 6500 yet, I haven't paid a lot of attention to the particulars.

Sorry I couldn't be more help at the moment.

Good luck, Norm.

Thanks for the link Larry.   I try to travel pretty light and really don't want to have to haul around more cables and such.  There should be a way to key the rig via SmartSDR and get audio output while on 2m FM.

The problem is when using FM on 2 meters.  The MOX button keys up the transmitter but there isn't any audio transmitted.

I have entered this problem report into our bug tracker as issue #5276 for additional investigation. Thank you for the defect report.
