I would like the connect my winkeyer to rear jack. Manual says, "fsk/cw (pin 4) ?  Setting the Winkeyer up to the rear will let me use 2 differnet paddles with having to unplug them from the front connector.

The hardware manual says you key via grounding pin 4.  So DB15 pin 4 goes to center conductor and one of the ground pins (e.g. DB15-5) goes to shield of the cable connected to the hardware WinKeyer.

I won't bother quoting the rest of the info in the manual, but it sounds like that's all you have to do because that input is always active.

It realy is that simple for breaking keying..  No additional configuration requoired.  If your Winkey has a seperate PTT output, you could optionaly hook that up to pin 14 too.

Um  Am I wrong or doesn't the 6500 have a winkeyer built in?

Its winkeyer emulation and still has some problems with certain software packages.  I will be one of the first to dispatch my winkeyer USB and its extra cables once the emulation gets a bit more robust.

It does. It just doesn't work well with some software. DM780 comes to mind.

I used to run a ZLP winkeyer with DM780, but found that the internal SmartSDR winkeyer is very stable and have no problems there at all with the freeware CWType set to winkey.
DM780 tends to send unwanted spaces and is generally not stable at all
with the internal WinKeyer, but that seems to be a HRD problem...
