I would like to buy a new headset for my 6500. I mostly do cw, but am interested in doing ssb and maybe AM.

Is the Heil Pro Elite 6 a good workable choice for the 6500? Or, other recs?

Tnx Bob RLC

Most serious contestors I know use the Radiosport Headsets. More expensive but substantially better quality than ANY Heil...and I have owned virtually all Heil's models at one time or another. Radiosport has Flex specific elements and cables. Audio quality on both receive and transmit is much better than Heil. They hold up to heavy use where the Heil usually fails.

KY6LA: "...substantially better quality than ANY Heil..."

Does that include the Heil Pro 7?

We took a Pro7 apart

Typical Heil,Chineese low quality manufacture compared to professional grade parts

Brilliant Marketing. Though.

I use a Pro Elite with my 6500. Works great, sounds good, very comfortable. I don't do much phone, but it's nice having a boom mic handy for when I do.

These are on ear, open headphones. They can be worn for a couple of hours comfortably. They sound very very nice and are affordable. They are called Grado SR60e http://www.amazon.com/Grado-Prestige-Series-SR60e-Headphones/dp/B00KYTNU9U/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qi...

I am operating REMOTE and use a Sennheiser USB headset and get excellent audio reports without prompting. This is one of the reasons I bought my 6300. Last year I had major surgery to remove a Medullary Cancer which had reached stage 4 (stage five is a wooden box) as well as the thyroid being removed I also lost my left hand pharyngeal nerve and thus only now have the use of one vocal chord. This makes my voice sound slightly breathless and raspy  so to get good audio reports says two things - one the Flex is a great radio and two - the Sennheiser PC7 headset is a great bit of kit.

I don't have any problem operating for 4 or 5 hours a day using the headset.

http://www.amazon.com/Single-Sided-Over---Head-USB-Headset/dp/B00LHXN5GU/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid... - these were 20€ in Europe when I bought them. I have just ordered the double earpiece version, PC8, for 33€.
