FlexLogger - Rename

Hi All,

When I started on FlexLogger I figured I'd have 2 or 3 people interested it in.  I chose the name "FlexLogger" because it made sense.  I was aware there already is a product in the world called "FlexLogger" but didn't think a freeware tiny little hobby logging program would be an issue.

So far it is not, but I think the program is growing and it makes sense to find a real name we can count on.

Also I believe the use of Flex may not be desired by Flex Radio.  It is their name after all.

So I am looking for some suggestions on a new name.

Please email me your suggestions then I will create a poll we can vote on.

Thanks - Mark

I would recommend sending an email to Gerald and get his input as to whether or not you could/should use "Flex" as part of your name, especially since it is written mainly for the Flex 6000 series of rigs.

If it is not advisable/permitted to use "Flex" in the titloe, then perhaps here are a few names to consider:  (I don't know if any of them have been used before or not)

SDR-Logger
Power-Logger
Power-Log
WS7M-Logger
FR-Logger   (short for FlexRadio Logger)
FR-Log
Master-Log
GUI-Logger
Smart-Log  or Smart-Logger   (might be a copyright violation)

Just a couple of minutes of brainstorming, because that's what I do.....

Every time I try to say it, Flogger comes out.    Which reminds me of the old video game Frogger.   But I still like Flogger.

FlexCompanion: Reason for that is you are seem to be expanding this as more a utility do all, with adding some amp support etc. You opened that door. I must say please don't divert too much to the utility side as it will side track you and other major features like logging don't get the attention they need. But then saying that, play with it and have fun.

Have to agree that some folks might confuse it with Log40m but I think it is a great name and a good logo.

I'd ask Flex (Gerald) to give permission to keep 'Flex'Logger. Straight forward logger+ for the Flex line is a great name....otherwise...WSMLogger or.. FLogger(said in jest hi) or even worse names come to mind hihi...

I can comment on this, and yes, we would nicely  ask that you defer from using the Flex name as that is reserved for products manufactured by Flex.

In the production world (software, hardware, etc) these can be pretty contested issues.  Have personally been through a name/patent issue, it isn't pretty.

We  just hadn't had a chance to talk to Mark about it, but now that it is out in the open, I thought I would respond since it has been discussed internally.

Beyond that, you know we all welcome any station integration anyone is doing and Mark has some cool stuff!

I also vote for Log4Flex.   Has a nice ring, and since Flex is last, it does not make
it sound like an FRS Flex Radio owned product.   Flex-Logger, with Flex primary/first,
could be misunderstood to be put out by Flex.  But Log4Flex is clear that it is something
to use for a product like Flex.  Sort of like  Util4Dell sounds more disconnected from Dell
than their own DellDisplayManager, which they put out.
Just some thoughts.
But the Log4Flex name sounds nice.

Flex Radio hardly has any deed to the word Flex. Just Google it.

My favorite:

FLEXTM is a new menstrual product for 12 hours of period protection and mess-free period sex. No more bloating, cramping, changing or leaks. Try it today.

"Fléchir" "bend", but the word flexibility "flexibilité" seems to me more appropriate.

Mark, would you consider giving a free copy of the program to the person who comes up with the winning name?  ;-)

Dave, the program is free, and soon, once a  few more basic features are in the source code will be available as well.

Mark,
Kudos on your intention to release the source. As an embedded systems and DSP programmer of many years I have often thought about dipping my toe into the world of Windows application programming, but GUIs are scary and give me a headache. Having someone else's source code to look at is always helpful. Which language and development environment did you use?

You could always go to Shopify to utilize their brand name generator to produce a generic brand name: https://www.shopify.com/tools/business-name-generator/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=logger&but...

I've been using a firmware built in to the ZeeVee HDb2840 TV video devices named "Maestro."

"With the ZeeVee HDB2840-NA, part of their HDBridge 2000 Series, you can distribute 4 sources/channels of HD video directly from any unencrypted HDMI source up to 1080p resolution to a virtually unlimited number of displays, ...................... The HDbridge's Maestro software enables quick setup for customizing your sources and channels."
