FlexControl PowerSDR vs SSDR

This may have been covered previously but I can't seem to find any information.

If I download the FlexControl Quick Start Guide for PowerSDR there are considerably more control options compared with what is in the guide for SSDR.

There is differentiation between single click, double click, and long click as well as other options.

Why are these not available in SSDR?

PowerSDR has been around a lot longer than SSDR, and from what I understand, unlike SSDR, PowerSDR is open source code so other programmers can add additional features.  The KE9NS version of PowerSDR is a good example.

That make sense. It would be immensely more useful if there were more than three functions available with FlexControl. I really like the concept of having a button context switch.

Oh well, just another to add to the wish list.

Hi Geoff,
A few of the functions like XIT have a double click feature.  XIT will reset to ZERO on a double click.  Since the FlexControl was developed back in the PowerSDR days, I entered an "idea" to create an updated control for the SSDR radios with many more options.  It would be based on 1/2 of the Maestro.

This may be something you are interested in.  If so, add your comments and a vote.  It is currently #12 on the list by popular votes.

Hi Al,
That's a bit more complex than what  I (think) I need. Almost makes me want to  develop something...

Hi Geoff,
I currently use 2 FlexControls so the added knobs and extra buttons of a 1/2 Maestro would be a nice update for me.  But I can certainly understand that not everyone wants that much.

There have been a few other controllers people have used, and some have rolled their own software for them.

The 1/2  Maestro footprint would be comparable to the 2 FlexControls I use today so desk space is also a consideration.

Another reason I like the 1/2 Maestro idea is that it would be supported by FRS.

No telling if/when  FRS will offer this but I'd buy it for sure.

Hi Al,

Thanks for all your thoughts into this. There is certainly a wide range of possible solutions depending on one's personal needs. It would be a fun project to put something together for my own use; of course time is always a consideration for an in-depth "hobby" project.
