I know theres a ton of posts regarding this subject and I think ive tried them all to no avail. I believe I have everything configured correctly but I cant seem to decode anything. Is there anyone that can point me at something to look for?

assuming everything is configured - radio should be digiu for pretty much all decodes and make sure the “reverse” button in fldigi is not on. Use the fldigi waterfall and i overlay the red decode on what you want to decide ensuring you are in the right mode in fldigi. if you are in the usa, use netlogger to see advertised digital networks - the saturn network on saturday morning is good as the will flip between olivia and mafk - it took me several tries to get all my settings correct. in rtty contests i will lock down fldigi to essentially be static and run the radio in rtty mode and use the radios waterfall which i find is more effective . comically you have to know what you are decoding. i have struggled in the past with decodes when turned out to be ft8 on an odd frequency.

    Jim,

It might be easier for us to spot something if you post screenshots of all your settings in both
FL Digi and Smart SDR. It's hard to point you where to look when we do not know what you are
    seeing.
You say you cannot decode, but can you transmit? Your post is vague.

If you see signals in the waterfall, make sure that the audio is not from your speaker into your mike input (#1 out of 100)

Jim, I am a brand new user of FLDIGI, but I do have it decoding on a Flex 6400. If you want to compare settings on the phone, I would be glad to do so.

Thanks, I know we both have a lot more to learn about FLDIGI but getting it initially set up and decoding is step one. We talked about the challenge of identifying which mode to use when you find a signal. I found this instruction on setting up FLDIGI to send and receive and respond to a digital mode identifier that we discussed.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nwkz0GNpA0I
at about 3:50 he goes into how to configure FLDIGI for this.also found the following URLs showing what different modes look like in the waterfall and in some cases what they sound like:
    https://www.george-smart.co.uk/radio/digital_modes_waterfall/

    https://www.sigidwiki.com/wiki/Category:Amateur_Radio

    http://www.hfradio.org.uk/html/digital_modes.html

    http://www.w1hkj.com/FldigiHelp-3.21/Modes/

Finally, this article toward the bottom gives calling frequencies by mode and band. Not sure how up to date it is: http://wb8nut.com/digital/

Make sure that you have the latest xml file for SmartSDR and that it is in the right place for it to be picked during initiating.
